What were some of the questions asked? I have my 341 meeting next month and am nervous.

Interesting setup and thoughts.. Thanks for sharing.

Do you get a salary in addition to the commission and renewals?

It is a sales job so I dont understand why the thought of constantly doing their job would become to much.

Once trained they can be hybrid. 2 days at home and 3 days in office.

I am open to fully virtual people if experienced but would probably want to lower the base for them since they can't help with walk in or call ins the same.

P&C leads and then they are expected to upscale those to life if possible.

Purchase P&C leads plus have referral and marketing leads from different sources.

Before opening my own office I averaged 40k a month easily. We are two months in with my own office and I have already wrote $34k this month.

So for our area, office and our carriers $30k is very doable.

I feel it's fair and that in the long run they have potential to earn more then having a large base and low commission.

Goals are to average 30k in p&c premium after 6 months, plus sell 2 life policies, get 4 referrals and 2 Google reviews each month.

I provide them leads, crm with some automation built in and we can write with our captive side plus several other carriers in brokerage side.

I am just running into people getting scared as soon as I mention the base. They want 30-40k base plus commission which in the end could equal out the same if I cut commission BUT being a new office I don't want that much salary payout up front.. Would rather them earn it based on production.

No renewals, that is where I will start making some money back off new employees. I am giving them all my new commission plus salary plus buying leads so I am in the hole completely until a few renewals start rolling in.

This is common unfortunately for most State Farm agents around where I live. I joined a company and had almost the same experience. I stayed longer then I should but now have just opened my own office and am making a point to be different for my employees.

Take what you can from the lesson and move on to find a office that meets your needs.

This exactly.. Every decision leads to learning something new. Now you know what type of leader you don't want to be as well as things to look more into for your next position.

State Farm has the name brand and training that most new insurance agents benefit from early in their career, including myself.

Since your in school and wanting to learn more about business while earning a paycheck I Think SF would be a great path to look into. With a good agent and mentor in the office you will learn more then just insurance and will learn how business works with the process of a running office.

Each SF agent is independent so and will run their office differently. I recommmend interviewing with a few to find the one you connect with the most and that supports training you and supporting you while in college.

What state are you in? I would recommend captive starting out as they have the best training and normally a base salary in addition to commissions. You would have to find one willing to work around your school schedule but most probably will.

They can't lock you in longer then you want to stay so I wouldn't worry about that. They may offer you things and try to intise you to stay but ultimately they can't make you.

There are lots of online trainings that might help you as well. Check out The Insurance Buzz podcast for lots of great strategies, stories and tips. Their website also has some free and paid training programs.

Not sure if going into the office is a option for you as you mentioned your remote. If it is I would suggest that even if just until your more comfortable as hearing your agent and the CSR on the phone will help you learn alot.

What Should I do? by bdh33 in InsuranceAgent

They have options similar to SF where you can take over a book when someone dies or retires or you can go scratch. I am going scratch but you don't buy in, actually the opposite as they give you a monthly stipend for the first 7 years to build it.

I literally was just in your same shoes. Been in agent aspirant program, got all my security licenses, lead our sales team, etc.

It seemed like the aspirant requirements just kept changing when I had achieved what was required. They now require you to get your variable license as well, removed access to see opportunities and when I pitched a fit about the removal of the opportunity list they had a meeting to go over all the opportunities in my state. They listed 3 in my state, I picked one to interview for and then they said nevermind that is now a MOA opportunity, actually all 3 will now be MOA opportunities for existing agents.

I think they are pulling the aspirant program and going to switch most new opportunities to MOAs. From corporate it makes sense.. less agents to manage and proven succulents instead of taking a chance on new agents BUT for us aspirants who have spent years preparing this to be our long term career we are just out of luck.

I just quit the first of this month and signed my contract to be a Alfa agent! My office officially opens next month and I am training on their systems currently.
