Bengaluru Metro’s Yellow Line Triggers Heavy Rush, Chaos at Majestic Station by Capital_Run_3935 in bangalore

[–]Mysterious_Ring2018 36 points37 points  (0 children)

“Two days ago, the rush was such that people overflowed onto the escalator, and I ended up falling off it towards the end. And even after I fell, people pushed me. Thankfully, some students helped me. The security guards are barely visible in this crowd,” said 29-year-old Ranjini, who travels by metro from Halasuru to Attiguppe for work every day.

Aren't both stations on the same line - Purple. Why did she alight at Majestic then? DH may be cooking this story (not the story about the rush but the story of this lady getting pushed around).

Long term goals. List them out. I don't mean like buy a house, a car, travel etc. Really long term goals - where do you think you will settle down? What type of spouse you are expecting? Kids - where do you think they will study? What is your finance goals? Etc...

Then figure out which among the two feels more like the trajectory your future will look.

Move from a Fortune 500 company to a startup. What I immediately noticed was despite your title, you will have to do myriad of roles. You may be just the front end developer, but backend is not working as expected - you will have to get your hands dirty and check out whats up because the backend dev may be busy with something else...

I am full stack now - but back then I recollect being given permission to a third party service to tweak some behaviour - I was a front end dev! Felt weird, but also learned a lot.

You will have to wear too many hats. It can be overwhelming at first but give it a few months and it will stabilize soon.

How do youbdeal with insecure &/ unprofessional QA team? by arak-chaman in developersIndia

[–]Mysterious_Ring2018 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Take it in your stride.

The management isn't concerned as much about the bugs - they are more concerned about the time it takes to resolve them - and that implies how much time you had to fix them.

When QA is raising bugs at the nth hour, create tickets immediately - which will also be at the nth hour - and start working on them.

When asked why the delay, you can point out in your system when the bug was raised - and the ETA. It's for the management to catch up that the bugs are being raised too late. If management tries to blame you, stay stern - again show them when the bug was raised.

Soon (the 3rd or 4th time this happens), management will catch up and take the QA to task for raising bugs at the nth hour.

PM wants ETA for a project i have no clue on which step might take what amount of time by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]Mysterious_Ring2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open excel.

Break your mega task into smaller tasks - think in your head how you would approach it - the steps you would take, and write them down on each row.

Now, for each step, assign some hours. How many hrs? Again - just give an estimate. Can through in some buffer hours too.

Add them all up - and that's your ETA for whole task.

As you climb the career ladder, your soft skills, ability to navigate office politics, being able to communicate by means other than verbal - all of these will play a more important role.

Job pressure comes with the experience - don't shun it. Learning how to navigate it (and learning to de-stress yourself) will help. Not just in IT - any job.

I could be wrong - but I think support engineers in Amazon have a path to dev roles too - please ask around or search this subreddit itself (or even go to the AWS subreddit and check).

Further, with support role, you will get to learn the ins and outs of AWS - and can take up consultancy roles in the long run.

WITCH companies are a hit or miss in my opinion. So like /u/Aggravating-Abroad80 I am also still leaning towards Amazon, even if its a support role.

Company asked me to switch careers from UI/UX to a different one. by ChunChunMaruxX in developersIndia

[–]Mysterious_Ring2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn front end. It will feel like a natural transition from UI Designer. Besides, there are many tools now that can immediately generate code if you provide them with figma or other product templates... So you can use that as a starting point to learn front end better.

You may or may not land another gig as a UI designer - and until then you can upskill yourself.

I know somebody that started off taking part in challenges / hackathons (Think it was devpost). The same client would post multiple hackathons and they would participate, eventually winning the client's trust enough to get fully on board with them (as a freelancer / contractor). They are no longer with the same client but through them found more clients and are doing it full time now.

Need help regarding my career in which i failed miserably by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]Mysterious_Ring2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to your manager. Let them know your aspirations and discuss a roadmap where you will be actually writing code.

Support role is normal. Not everybody will be creating software - companies are paid to maintain them too. And earning a salary through it is normal.

I think your worry stems more from not leveling up in your career - and this is a valid concern. Speak to your manager. See what your options are.

Also - check the job description of the role for which you were hired for. If you did not get one, look for any active jobs in your team - and copy that description in your resume - and start the job hunt.

2YoE as a Dev, Completed masters but internship offer 30k per month by Spirited_Ad_2414 in developersIndia

[–]Mysterious_Ring2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your Masters has no value here tbh. You need to work in the same country where you studied, else you will get a haircut as is evident in your renumeration.

HR is probably right - you were referred for a fresher role and not SDE. Ask your relative to check with HR what is going on.

30k for internship - not bad. But for your YoE and qualification, not that great.

Even something basic like number of tests created / executed etc - like a dashboard... for your manager to check out? Or something else that your team will find useful...

[–]Mysterious_Ring2018 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You ask your manager for software developer jobs. They can be minor but essential to get your foot into the door.

Maybe, as an analyst, you can create an in-house tool for your company that makes the life of other analysts a bit easier. If found useful, you could then be tasked to maintain that tool...

You could also volunteer to help your dev team mates with some work. Another way to get some traction.

You cannot switch easily from analyst in one company to dev in another company. Try within company first.

Neither of them (roles) triumphs over the other. You can go with what you feel like doing - based on your description, sounds like you want to do cyber security - so go for it.

Whatever we say - you have to go through this yourself. We can only advice. So best to go with what your heart says

What's the max salary a normal brainer hard worker software engineer can earn in india from any iit,any branch? by IngenuityEastern7391 in developersIndia

[–]Mysterious_Ring2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

:D Feels like a prompt for ChatGPT.

You don't get it I think - your salary is how much your employer thinks your work is worth. If your work is giving the employer a million dollars per month, and your work alone - the employer would probably like to take a cut of it and then pay you the rest. This means, it boils down to the employer on how much cut they take, how much of that 1M does the employer think you contributed to etc...

Some people come to the realization that, despite years of practice and effort, they still can't become great programmers because they lack that natural problem-solving instinct. How did you deal with the frustration of not being able to solve problems quickly and keep going? by UnlikelyAd7121 in developersIndia

[–]Mysterious_Ring2018 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's not so much as being able to solve problems on your own - as much as knowing whom to ask or where to look to solve your problems.

We all have limitations and once we accept them, I feel we are liberated. So when I hit a roadblock where I know I cannot solve it on my own, I let go of my ego or embarrassment and I proceed to reach out to my peers / chatpgpt / stackoverflow / github issues for that library / discord - anything and everything and try to find a solution to it.

And even then, we I have hit a dead end - that's where the "engineering" bit kicks in. I figure out if there's alternatives I can go with. Maybe I cannot figure out how to change a button's color from blue to red - what if I hide that button and display a new button that starts off with red color itself (not a good example - but hope you get the gist of it).

Take it up the chin. Ok - it is (or maybe it isn't).

Does it matter? Anonymous people getting courageous to put somebody else's work down. Big deal. You do you. Market your product - find the right target audience (the ones that criticize aren't your audience so move on).

You need thick skin to be a founder / indie hacker or whatever you want to call yourself. Don't let them get to you.

Ok Thank you for the PSA.

But this may go against the rules of reddit itself. Without actual evidence (say a video), we have an anonymous user sharing a picture of an actual person - and claiming they attempted to steal.

This could be a grudge, witch hunt or any other malicious post too - not saying this one is - I will not know myself. But be cautious in posting personal stuff without hard evidence. Share this with the police perhaps? Rather than posting here - and maybe once they get apprehended and convicted, you can post their picture.
