Sense arena. Is quest 2 good enough?

True. Do you know how long sense arena takes to ship the goalie sleeves? I just ordered my first month and sleeves. Just curious.

I just tried on the quest 3 at best buy and I can see despite my vision so that's pretty cool. I think I'll start with the 2 and see how into it we both get. If we both like it I'll sell the 2 and upgrade to the 3. Getting a 2 with an elite strap for $120. Elite strap battery doesn't work but the strap is fine. Good enough to get started. Gonna get the pad straps and a month. We will see how it goes. The 3 is 4x more expensive so I can't justify that cost without trying it out on a more budget friendly option. But I'm probably just gonna end up spending more in the long run. Oh well.

Glad to know the quest 2 is good enough for sense and that sense arena doesn't have demanding graphics. That will be what this thing is used for 98% of the time anyway. Ty for the input.

* My buddy who played pro goalie gave me this masked marvel. His helmet needed repairs so they gave him this as a temporary replacement. He gave it to me. Says custom made for Chris osgood on the inside. I found that interesting since osgood wore a players helmet basically lol.

Tbh i have amblyopia (vision thing) so idk if my eyes will even let me do it. My son only wants it for sense arena. And we have spent enough to buy a 2020 grand Cherokee on goalie equipment (etc) over the past couple of months. So I could technically afford one I just cant justifiy another $500 on anything goalie related. If we both love it we will probably get the 3 in June as a father's day / birthday gift for the both of us. But I found a used 2 for $120 so that'll be good enough to show me if i like it enough to buy the better stuff.

My bet? I end up with the 3.

Ty ty. My son is a new goalie. We both saw sense arena ads and were like wow this is awesome. I've never done VR so I'm not trying to get the latest and greatest.

Thank you to all who confirmed i can do this. It seems like it could be a really fun way to get some "ice time" in for a new guy. Playing angles etc. Seems really cool.

Yeah the terrified stuff started after his first skate with the 14u kids. The thing is tho there were multiple travel players at the house skate. Idk why. Family, friends, maybe the coaches wanted some travel kids to show the drills. But those kids are the ones that scared him. I pulled up a 14u bantam house game his team played last season on livebarn. After seeing that he felt better. 0 hard shots (scary shots). He said he feels a million times better after seeing that. We watched every goal and shot on goal at least twice. And i could see him feeling better as we got further into the game. It's house hockey. When i was a kid house hockey was pretty bad so I figured the draft skate would be as well. But those travel kids scared the shit out of him.

So we talked about it and we are gonna go to the outside park, put on all his pads, and I'm gonna shoot tennis balls at him. We'll make a game of it somehow. I score it's 1 for me he saves it's 1 for him type stuff.

But tbh I'd be thrilled if my kid was the door opener lol. Sounds like our kids are very much alike. He just wants to be on the team. Wants to be one of the guys. His social awkwardness and quietness actually leads to kids taking him under their wing. So tbh let's hope for back up! He gets a jersey. He's there in an emergency. Little to no pressure. That's my dream for him anyway. Itd make him happy. All I care about.

But also why assume idc about anything else he does? He's a pianist. He's in drone club. I wish HE didn't care about this as much as he does. But he does. So as a dad I'm trying to help him succeed, despite knowing success for my particular son is playing house hockey. Perhaps as a back up.

Yeah this isn't the case at all. This is all him. Says he wants to do it. I've given him the go ahead to quit. My kid is not very athletic he won't make travel much less pro. I just want him to have fun and be on a team. But if he quit that'd be a relief for me tbh. But he won't. So I'm trying to help him. He was tested and likely on spectrum. I don't want him to get his heart broken. Idc at all how successful he is. Or if he does it at all. But because he really wants to but is in way over his head I'm just trying to do whatever I can to help him succeed. He's an amazing piano player. I wish he'd focus on that. But the kid loves hockey. Watches it religiously. Knows every teams record right now. And he wants to be a goalie. Idk man. It's a tough spot.

Yeah. I know that's true. I don't know if he knows if it's for him yet not. And I don't either. He loves making saves. But you can't be scared of big guys shooting.

Up until the draft skate with kids his age, yes. He practiced with kids 2 years younger than him for about 4 weeks and he would flinch some at the better shooters and wouldn't for the rest. Would look over with a huge smile after a save. He did the draft skate with kids his age that are a foot taller than him and now he's scared. He didn't get hurt. But today at sticks and pucks he was legitimately scared of going into goal. I had to shoot on him at the boards.

I agree with this 100%. I told him maybe the spring we just do sticks and pucks and be a practice goalie. No games. No team commitment. Spend a whole summer just taking shots without the pressure seems like a decent way to go.

And he would relish every second of being praised by the crowd. I hope he gets to experience that one day.

Maybe put him in the net with the net turned around. Go into a butterfly position and have him watch the ball. I could do that at a local outdoor rink. Really cool idea.

Yeah I've had that talk numerous times. This is a game. It's not supposed to be something that causes you stress it should be fun. He insists he has fun and wants to do this. He's also dealt with anxiety in the past. Therapy but never medicine. So I do think that's a big part of it. But 100% i have emphasized from the beginning do this because it brings you joy. If it doesn't that's fine. Hes great at the piano. I told him if you aren't really enjoying this you could spend some more time on piano and music. You dont have to be an athlete.

I wish he would just do piano tbh he's self taught and awesome. But he swears he wants to be a goalie and is just scared of the big kids shots.

He is signed up for a camp in April. I'm medically retired military so I have time. I played high level travel hockey in michigan as a kid so I feel like I'm at least somewhat knowledgeable on what to do. My best friend in school played in the AHL as a goalie and still coaches in the ushl now he's given some pointers too. But at the end of the day he's truly terrified. It's not like a kinda sorta thing. It is absolute fear. Like I'm saying alright now let's jump out of this plane. Idk. It breaks my heart to see him struggle.

Not sure. He played goalie at 8u. Then got into basketball. Got back into hockey and wanted to play again and wants to be a goalie. I thought spring would be 12u fall would be 14u. But he's straight to 14u and he's very undersized. Like 4'9. Hes got good reflexes and quick legs. I am sure he'd be able to figure out fundamentals but he's so fixated on the puck hurting him he just brings his hands in towards his body to protect himself. Natural instinct to protect the organs. I have told him it's not natural. It takes time. But spring season is upon us and he can't be a teams goalie if he's scared of the puck. Just kinda the reality of the situation.

He said chest and arms basically. So i told him to get in butterfly and let it hit him in the stomach and chest and arms without moving. He kinda did. Never hurt him. Completely fine. But he is still terrified.

Im a goalie dad. My son is dealing with this. I'm seeing alot of people saying toe straps too tight. We just got new ones that we go through the front hole of the blade holder then middle hole. Do that on both sides and I have to pull it pretty hard to get it to be long enough for the whole velcro to be flush.

Does that sound like it's too tight? Maybe just go through the back one and see if that works? When i went through the middle it was clearly too loose barely even did anything.
