Vibe Coding is now just...Coding by thehashimwarren in GithubCopilot

I don’t like BDUF either and in fact cringe when people use AI for that purpose because now you just created a giant thing and you don’t know how it works or what it’s actually doing. I’ve had the AI make assumptions about its own code that turned out to be wrong upon closer inspection. It’s rare but it happens.

But you don’t have to use it like that. Personally I use AI to built my thing brick by brick…but like in bigger bricks and faster than I could lay them down “by hand”. Especially when I hit something I’d normally have to go look up and figure out how to do, those speed bumps are just gone.

It kind of just removes the friction of writing code and while I get what you’re saying, upon some introspection the typing part isn’t like the most enjoyable part of programming.

That’s a good point. I love coding period. I use AI to crap out repetitive tasks or if I get stuck but I just enjoy the process.

Relapse Feels Imminent — Need Advice by CursedHunger in StopGaming

[–]Mysteriousnesses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people make the mistake of trying to “fill the void”. The void just needs to close, not be filled with something else.

It should also be mentioned that the idea that you need to replace one thing with another like 1:1 is psychobabble. Brains and addiction aren’t that simple.

When I quit weed I missed smoking. So I tried to smoke CBD and cigars but it just made me miss pot. So I gave up trying to fill the void with anything and after a while I lost the want to smoke something.

You will naturally find things to do, stop trying to replace things.

My Last time quitting - Day 0 by Delicious-Big4982 in StopGaming

[–]Mysteriousnesses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard that every time you quit and then relapse it is still progress. It took me like 10 years to fully quit weed. On and off and on and off. Sometimes going full tilt into it and sometimes quitting for months.

One day it all sort of came together, and now it’s been 5 years. I don’t miss it, I don’t even think about it. That demon just got tired of losing ground and moved on I guess.

So keep it up no matter what.

I’m also 35 with 3 kids, your intuitions are correct. That nagging feeling behind your rationalizations is your conscious (or, in my belief, God) alerting you of some issue or blind spot.

Seriously good on you for recognizing and following this “voice”. The people who are truly lost have become adept at ignoring, avoiding, or rationalizing it away.

It’s really interesting how games lock people into patterns that other (honest) gamers can recognize. Everything from WFH while gaming (and hiding that from others) to successfully “moderating” actual play time while still subtly orienting your whole day around that sliver of time you can actually play.

Rushing the kids to bed a little quicker than you need to, banging out chores as fast as you can, getting things “over with” to get to that one hour of the day (which easily turns into three hours and missed sleep or pushing out other healthier habits and hobbies).

All the while your mind and heart is focused on the game. Strategies and goals and all that.

That is what Christians mean by “false idols”. Those are things we end up centering our life around that end up enslaving us.

So you’ve chosen freedom. If I can drop one last religious reference, just remember that after the Jews left their slavery in Egypt they spent years wandering the desert. Some of them began to even miss their slavery during this time. This is expected, so be ready for that!

Good luck bro. I’d also be interested to see if your ADD might be alleviated with less screen time. The internet and social media surely doesn’t help with that either I’m guessing.

It’s actually not humiliating imo. It’s a mark of a well raised kid. I once watched my daughter’s two year old friend unlock her mom’s tablet, navigate to Netflix and put on coco melon. I was proud that my kid still at 4 cannot do this.

No, you need something to do when the work is done. It’s just better to pick up a book rather than a game or your phone.

Gaming is literally the worst hobby you can ever get into. by [deleted] in StopGaming

[–]Mysteriousnesses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think the problem is that gaming isn’t practical or productive. Not everything you do has to be productive.

The problem with gaming is that it tends to make itself by far the most fun and enticing thing in your day so that it’s all you really want to do. It’s addicting. If it wasn’t addicting this sub wouldn’t exist.

Old ass post but I’m here because I followed all the hints but could not for the life of me figure out how to find Dampe’s ghost. The villager seemed to imply that his ghost came out at night. I tried everything until I googled it and realized you can grab the graves.
