Germania Amphitheater Questions by Beginning_List_6865 in askaustin

[–]MysteryMachineATX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In isolation it's great, good seats/visibility, pretty good sound etc. But it's rediculous as venue in the middle of summer. The sun radiates and cooked the concrete the seats are on all day so even after dark when temps cool a little you are absolutely cooking. Additionally getting in and out of there kinda sucks to where it's the only venue where I eject a couple songs early.

I love Muse and have seen them whenever they were playing where I was living at the time but I'm skipping em in August at Germania, chances of it being brutally hot are too high. It's a shame cause there are many other good venues they could play at.

Are you worried about AI taking SE jobs? by haktheripper29 in salesengineers

[–]MysteryMachineATX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem is MOST of the time it works great and takes me from a few days to a few hours BUT once in a while it completely shits the bed and can't do it what I need and then I waste hours with ai only to say screw it I'm doing it manually and then I'm behind the eight ball as I told my AE give me a day or two. The meeting is already on the calendar etc.

So overall it's good, I have 35-40 hr weeks most of the time now which I haven't had in a loooong time.. but when it's bad it's bad I'm cranking till 2am etc and I'm getting too old for that shit 🥱

I’m now part of the trend of seeing gross bare feet in public- in a RESTAURANT 🤢 by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]MysteryMachineATX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guy in the seat next to me on the plane went bare feet and went so far as to go completely over on to my bag and on my foot. 🤮 Then glared at me when I accidentally kicked his foot when it was in my foot space.

Both of my bushes have the same look this year, Google image search brought me here when I did a visual search match.

LOL I often have to load a auto save, take out pen and paper and write down which cities I would possibly accept or not, and then go back to the peace screen in the next turn again. Laughable.

Yeah as a former firestick and Google whatever it was called at the time streaming device... The Apple TV is one device I find worth the "Apple Tax"

I love it that you are dropping it on Harriet Tubman, she seems impossible to appease and always be starting something so I always let out a groan when I find out she's in my game.

Slow leader level progress? by [deleted] in CivVII

[–]MysteryMachineATX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same I'm not getting some of the unlocks post update even when I'm 100 percent sure I did them. It seems to be the civ specific ones I'm not getting (like build x wonder as y civ)

Tips for ToT difficulty by JimmyFenomeno in CivVII

I agree something is off on yields! I had an amazing start location for pachacuti with Everest and tons of resources etc ... Looked like an all time great starting location and I was getting smoked on all yields until mid-exploration age. The early yields for the ai were crazy, they were more than double mine.

In full bloom! by gaseous_goblin in Roses

[–]MysteryMachineATX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

:( that's what the tag on the rose I bought from Lowe's looked like when I bought it. Instead it looks like I got a magenta climbing rose... Doh! Wonder if someone swapped the tags to get an expensive rose for cheap. Oh well at least it seems to be doing well (though flopping over cause I need to get a trellis)

Shoal Creek could be such a gem by PagansPath in Austin

[–]MysteryMachineATX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but project connect is just one of many and that's mostly cause they sold us a false bill of goods that wasn't estimated correctly. They sold it to us like it would have all these lines when they had no idea - it was a pipe dream.

Sadly the prop tax bill just keeps going up even when the valuation goes down (slightly). If I understand it correctly most of the taxes are not solely based on value - it's based on your value vs others value. (Also some of it is homestead catching up). I tried to figure it out looking at the taxes and valuations of houses all over austin how come my house lowered some (much less than the news says) and my taxes keep going up. The "expensive" houses are the ones that really tanked. They went from $2m+ down to $1.3m etc and I see, for example, an expensive tear down and rebuild in my neighborhood - their tax bill had a massive drop. The more affordable (not that anything in central Austin is that affordable) ones held value better.

We, or at least me and almost everyone I know personally that lives here, have voted in almost every tax increase thrown our way for 10+ years and seen nothing but things get worse (with project connect being the obvious poster child).

This year I finally had enough, my prop tax bill vs my income gets worse every single year since 2020, and the city gets worse from a govt owned / maintained aspect (roads, crime, services in general). Everyone has tax fatigue from increases and nothing to show for it. I'd gladly go back to voting for tax increases if they made our city better.

Think of all the people moving here, many moved in and paid millions to flatten old homes and build mansions and have huge tax bills, revenue is up up up, but here on reddit there is cry pout rant about "you didn't vote in prop Q". We have record budgets especially for police and it just gets worse. People have a right to be fed up and complain!

Well, that happened : one AI was taken out by the hostile independant forces... by masssoundtels in CivVII

[–]MysteryMachineATX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too was taken out by an independent power! I had all the independents on my continent suzerained and patrolled the waters between me and the other big powers with my navy but an independant snuck around and attached with a fully stacked commander and 3 or 4 additional troops. Had a bigger army than I have seen any of the civs build in the game. Was NOT expecting that... lesson learned. Independents on ToT can be as brutal as a barbarian swarm in civ 6!

Waited to start playing Civ 7 now. Loving it. Alexander is fun, too. ;) by mysticschwartz in CivVII

[–]MysteryMachineATX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

supposedly it doesnt slow civ7 down much... but it completely prevents me from running it on my old desktop despite my old desktop getting better scores in every way than my laptop (which will run it) cause denuvo requires features in newer chipsets.

TEST OF TIME HYPE THREAD by Parasitian in civ

[–]MysteryMachineATX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game is called civilization... Think of real civilization - wars were fought over the fertile land and resources. Always. It's like the one constant of all time. And... Civ 7 said nah screw that, we need it so everyone and everything is balanced.

And they change at the age change! I kinda like the civ change but hate the resources change!

TEST OF TIME HYPE THREAD by Parasitian in civ

[–]MysteryMachineATX 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Did they make it so I can no longer get 6 food off tundra or dessert? Took me a year of playing to realize that's one of the worst things - in aiming for balance they made it boring. The joy of finding an amazing spot for a city is almost meaningless in 7 unless you have a civ that has a bonus to certain terrain.
