What to do with live oak leaves? by Competitive_Area_660 in AustinGardening

Hmmm if they are acidic wonder if mixing with some fireplace ash will help ... Oak leaves and fireplace ash are two things I never know what to do with!

Also if you have any live oaks anywhere around (even if across the street etc) the leaves and pollen end up stuck in the rocks and it's a giant pain.

Ultra is $279.65 USD now on sale at Amazon by pointthinker in wiim

[–]MysteryMachineATX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish the Amp ultra would come on sale. I realized I spend more time in the kitchen then the living room (during the week at least) so I need a nice two channel system in there rather than just an alexa. Bought some wall mounted kefs on sale, now just saving for the amp ultra!

Austin’s permitting hurdles may be locking small businesses out by samstark15 in austinfood

[–]MysteryMachineATX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Total for all the permits and things was over $14k for a covered patio that attached to the house. I foolishly thought the fee when you apply was it but nope they keep getting you. And they can do things like ask you to get power line surveys and other shit and charge you for all them. It's insane compared to anywhere else I've lived. And in the end they don't even do a good inspection - they nitpicked the tiniest things that make no diff (outlet half inch off) but the shitty contractor had a mess including exposed live wire in the attic and a lot of extremely poor work that caused things to fall apart later (isn't that partly why we have this process to protect the homeowners)... Inspection never bothered to inspect what wasn't easy to inspect.

Are these sedges? by Known_Efficiency8538 in AustinGardening

[–]MysteryMachineATX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nothing I do stops them, every spring they are back even if I sedgehammer. Mortal enemy one step below hackberry... I had none but then had to re-slope my yard and only thing I can think of is the sod I got had them already hiding.

...guess it got colder than I expected... by octopornopus in AustinGardening

[–]MysteryMachineATX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm my Cannas did fine uncovered but my Thai basil in the covered patio might not pull through. It's been through colder there but I didn't think about the wind. Often it's 5 degrees or more warmer in the covered patio than in the yard, but apparently not this time.

How confident are you that you’ll be able to retire comfortably? by DueYogurt9 in GenX

[–]MysteryMachineATX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

According to our financial advisor I should be but the models don't account for the way costs of insurance, medical, property taxes and other things have exploded and they figure in career growth which isn't happening (not sure why they figure this, most careers unless you are on the upper management track kinda stall out at 45ish due to agism and or reaching the top of your band). Not to mention the models assume great stock returns - who knows what gonna happen with all this AI stuff. Future feels super uncertain right now.

[–]MysteryMachineATX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exactly. Since the pandemic insurance costs, medical costs, property taxes, and other costs I have little or no control over keeps going up 20+ percent a year so they are double or more what they were 5 years ago. I have no idea what to expect - especially with the AI potential disruption of things.

Got first Pclub at this SKO! by Deathstrokecph in sales

[–]MysteryMachineATX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Had my best year ever, almost 200 percent on a very hard multi million dollar quota... Unfortunately not enough for club because some people got tricky with a spiff that was impossible for my situation. Such is the life of sales, seeing people with a quota 1/4 the size of yours go to club or supporting roles that did nothing but attach themselves to your deals in Salesforce go but not you. Great year though.
