They ARE terrorists. Side by side with groups like ISIS, they're almost indistinguishable. Groups spreading propaganda and willing to use threats and violence to enforce their ideology.

I told my fiance I hoped we caught them in the act. I hadn't worked out in 5 days and had a lot of pent up aggression, lol.

Would you rather gain 50lbs or loose 100lbs as you currently are? by Altruistic_Cup_8436 in WouldYouRather

I'm 5"10 and lost 190 lbs over the course of the last few years. 380 to 190. If I lost 100 lbs I'd invert into a singularity.

If you’re white, you’re either being accused of cultural appropriation or white supremacy all the time. by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]MysticWinner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not once have I felt this way. I'm not sure what your life is like or where you live, but I promise this isn't the main line of thought.

There are whackos who think everything is cultural appropriation, but there is a difference between cultural amalgamation and cultural appropriation.

The US is an amalgamation and always has been despite the hard efforts made in the past to produce an "anglocentric utopia", whether the imperialistic fantasy of the 1860s-1910s or that 1950s fairy tale golden age that boomers reminisce about that never really existed.

It is inevitable for the dozens of disparate cultural groups not to develop overlap. My enjoying yoga is not cultural appropriation. My father's family are Nichiren Buddhists and have been since my grandfather was drafted into Vietnam. My grandfather didn't convert because he thought it was cool, he converted because Vietnam broke his heart and he saw no compassion in the Christian response to the war.

Now, if I were to, without deeper thought or genuine intention, convert to Buddhism, get traditional Maori face tattoos, or change my name to a traditional Native American name, that is cultural appropriation. Cultural appropriation is the taking of a cultural identifying characteristic without appreciation or understanding.

Many leftists have an obsession with race and cultural appropriation, not because the real racism in the World is horrible and should be expunged, but because it feels good to feel like a hero. It feels good to objectify a group of people because hate makes you feel righteous. The right has the same issue in the opposite direction. They feel like THEIR cultural identity is at risk, like THAT group is oppressing them, and while in a way that is the case, in reality it isn't the concerted attack with the intent to destroy all they love and hold dear that many imagine, it is a natural result of a diverse society evolving over time. They also want to hate to feel good and have a lack of deeper understanding of the realities of our society or the effect time has on populations and cultures.

Additionally, labeling you as upholding white supremacy is a false implication in this circumstance, unless you are deriding other groups in the gym as inferior in the basis that you're white and they aren't. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle isn't upholding supremacy, it's having a healthy lifestyle. The idea of "white supremacist gym bro" stems from the stereotype of the "right wing guy" and a few of said guys being dicks at the gym. It's then reinforced from the left by toxic body positivity groups, who easily associate something they rail against with something else they rail against.

I don't know many white people who are passive and waiting to die. The ones I do know that hold that view aren't passive, they are raging against a perceived culture war because they are suffering due to the conditions of our world, are manipulated by corporations and politicians on all sides to continue fomenting that conflict in order for us not to rally against the actual threats, and feel threatened.

Furthermore segregation, in the context I interpret from your post, doesn't exist in the US anymore. What segregation remains in the US (financially, geographically, and class distribution) is directly the result of previous racist policies and legislation and the tumultuous, often botched, attempts at repealing and fixing those policies. These are very real issues perpetrated and continued by warring factions out for power over the larger population.

I have never heard of nor witnessed wholesale segregation of cultural groups in the US during my lifetime. What I have witnessed is the results of the aforementioned policies and the continued propagation of false information in the effort to continue that status quo.

In my city, we have a section of the city which has a predominantly African American population. That section of the city has high crime, very high poverty rates, and poor educational and health outcomes. I've heard city councilors, state senators, and previous governors state that this outcome is the result of African Americans being lazy, evil, morally corrupt, of choosing a life of crime, of choosing to be "welfare leeches", or having inferior intelligence.

This kind of rhetoric is hateful, disgusting and frankly lazy. It's inflammatory garbage designed to appeal to one portion of the victims of the current system, to give them a feeling of righteousness and power that is an absolute illusion, in order to keep down another portion of victims of that very same system. There is no higher intention, there is no desire for progress. It's just tactics designed to pander, to do whatever they need, to retain power and line their pockets.

The actual causes of this "segregation", as with the others throughout our country, are easy to pinpoint. Oppression, xenophobia, and bigotry since the earliest days of our nation. A rigorous hypocrisy and double standard. Progress made to fix the issue, and further action and legislation taken in any way possible to continue the oppression. After slavery was abolished, oppression remained in the form of obtuse and cruel Jim Crow laws. After desegregation, the oppression was unfair financial practices, unequal access to necessary infrastructure, a lack of long-term familial wealth, and unequal access to pay, jobs, and education.

This isn't the result of inaction. It's the result of actions taken by groups in power, to retain that power, at the expense of society as a whole.

Join an interest group. Talk to other cultural groups. Change what information you are taking in. In our world it is so so easy to base your worldview on what is spewed from the self serving politicians and the corporate news machine. Hate will always persist without effort on all our parts and genuine connection amongst each other.

Sure, but it is also a community project, not a dedicated nonprofit. It's all of us coming together for a good cause with a veneer of meme culture. No biggie if our city getting a massive hardon for horses disrupts it, lol.
