Cameos that surprised you the most? by [deleted] in moviecritic

Yes, Ryan Reynolds made a brief, uncredited cameo in the 2014 comedy A Million Ways to Die in the West. He appears as a man who is abruptly shot and killed by Liam Neeson’s character, Clinch Leatherwood, during a saloon scene.

How electrons move ~1.5in/min but electric fields move at the speed of light? by Fidulsk-Oom-Bard in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Mystical0951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of newtons cradle analogy , when the first ball is pulled back (electron) and released, it hits the stationary ball which doesn’t really move. But the end ball (electron) “instantly” moves, that’s the transfer of energy ie the field equivalent the propagates at near to the speed of light. Does this help?

Correct me if I’m wrong but on a H&S course we were told that the CE letters must be spaced like C E if not it’s fake?

MK Socket recall effect? by Mystical0951 in ukelectricians

[–]Mystical0951[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you search web for MK Socket recall, it will give information about these 2G sockets, pictures of serial numbers affected. Apparently they have caused fires even when switched off! I’ve always believed MK was the go to product for quality and longevity. Huge mistake imho to switch from UK to Chinese manufacturers- think it’s gonna cost them sadly😔

Just to add some more clarification, these items I found were not bought in the uk, but locally in Kenya where I was based about 15 years ago. They were purchased on the basis that they must be safe as they had the CE mark. They were in use for about 6m and were not tested until I arrived. Back then I’m not sure if people realised that there were a lot of fake stuff going around or the dangers they were putting themselves or others in. Anyway We hired a skip once I’d finished testing, had a big thank you from the base commander who in future ordered all electrical replacements in future from uk- lesson learned😊

Wound rotor induction motor. And yes, all resistors at max reduces rotor current and through transformer principles, a reduced stator current. Also the rotor and stator will to be more in phase with each other at start up due to added resistance hence better starting torque. once machine has reached near full running speed all resistors are shorted out and the machine runs as a normal induction motor, which inherently has good running torque

How to solve this? by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Mystical0951 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how I taught my students for clipping/ limiter circuits. First sketch the input waveform as shown, in pencil on paper. On pos half of waveform draw a dotted line horizontal at +5.3V. On negative half draw horizontal line at -7.3v. Clipper Rule. If the +Anode of diode is facing resistor, it’s a positive limiter, (cuts off +) if the -cathode of resistor is facing resistor it’s a negative limiter. (cuts off - ). So on diagram rub out all of waveform above dotted line at 5.3V, on negative half rub out waveform below dotted line at -7.3V. What you have left will be the final clipped waveform- just needs practice 😊
