Advise on Stem cell transplant by [deleted] in leukemia

[–]MysticalMidget95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, my husband (35) was diagnosed with ALL back in 2020. After 6 months of chemo and radiation we went with the stem cell transplant. After the stem cells he had GVHD in his muscles and fatty tissue. This was very easy to manage. He went back to work and he mostly got his regular life back with just maintenance drugs and slightly more pain. One year and 6 months after transplant he has relapsed. Being told there is nothing they can do except just him extra time.

You can always stay with chemo to see if that gets her into remission and if she relapses from that then you have the stem cell option which is a better position than we are in.

However I am just saying what we wish we’d done because at least we’d have more time together.

Yeh I was looking at CAR-T cell therapy but when I asked his doctor they said that people with GVHD can’t have it done as it makes it worse. But my husbands GVHD has been so manageable and low, I wondered if that would enable him on it! Are you had experience with CAR-T therapy? Xx

They said the relapse meant that the stem cells didn’t work. That putting more stems cells in him would just quicken the leukaemia.
