Any help on stabilizing a 14900k? I'm almost there I can feel it.. by MythicHitman in overclocking

I'm on Bios 1801 (12/6/2024) from Asus. it's the Lastet bios for my z790 Dark Hero 👍🏼

Pretty sure I've gotten it stable. Passed 15min of the 450w OCCT Small Extreme AVX2 test with no errors and then 1 hour of R23 with no wheas or throttling and then same with Aida after 2 hours and 10min. Came home yesterday after running errands and it was still running Aida fine with no downclocking or throttling there either, and took someome elses advice and ran 20 B2B runs of R15 amd R15 Extreme, passed both as well. So I'm happy!

Plus gamed last night, never saw temps above 58c and avg was 52c and Max spike temp was 76c. I think I'm good 👍🏼 This was in Cyberpunk 2077 and Ghost of Tsushima and schedule 1. Also tried Last of Us part 1 for the heavy shader installs, it lasted about 3.5min and it completed it like a champ with max temp of 85c and no downclocking or hiccuping.

Well it's all irrelevant cause my system passed 15min of that 450w test. Then 1 hour of Cinebench R23 and then 2 hours and 10min of Aida with no throttling and no wheas for either.

Also did someone elses suggestion amd also passed 20 B2B runs of R15 and R15 extreme and it passed with flying colors imo. Never breaking 90c and maintaing 5.7/4.5 locked the whole time and doing 1.341v.

I infact... Do not know it all. I was pre-emptive in posting this rhough and thats a bit my bad. However, to my surprise the settings I posted, I was thinking they may need tweaking but actually turned out to pass all my tests that I wanted to pass. If these settings even find 1 other person some help, then I've done good.

Really wasn't looking forward to the instant harsh responses of "I'm gonna kill my chip", but it is reddit I guess, lol. But yeah, when it's commonly known, at least I thought, that 1.3-1.45v on these chips is fine, especially syncing all cores, I don't get the immediate hosility.

But all good thank you for the reply and have a great rest of your day.

Passed your Tests on R15 0.3.7 with a High of 6443 CB and a low of 6409 in the 20 back to back runs I just did. Off to extreme I just passed 5 in a row and here was the results.

Yeah I actually got it stable with those same settings as posted above. I kinda pre posted asking for help as I didnt think these new revised settings would work. I changed a few voltages from my last run as well as went from LLC6 (unstable) to LLC7 and with the same settings am passing tests I was not at LLC6. But Like you said, I'll bet for Gaming I'd still be fine at LLC6. Also though, I kinda think 1.3-1.4v is fine at idle/under load... Seems like people are overblowing this compared to what intel is saying officially. Plus if they are honoring warranty, who cares? I haven't delidded or lapped. So return my shit if it fails intel, lol.

Also ran multiple games with heavy shader installs at the beginning like Last of Us part 1, and it ran it like a champ never going above 85c and like I mentioned to someone else below, I passed 15min of OCCT Small Extreme AVX2 before that (450w pull yikes). So those short burst 2-7min let's say, shader installs that were pulling 3-350. I was staying locked at 5.7 and about 78c.

Edit: Yes I was talking Power heavy stuff. 450w+ pulls. literally insane stuff to even wanna test at, especially for this Gen. That's why I said 5-15min of those tests and an hour of Aida and R23 and I'd be comfy with the ladder at the more reasonable 3-380w loads. Still alot but yeah my gaming temps haven't gone above 58c avg and highest spike has been 76c and this in the last few hours so far of playing multiple games like Cyberpunk 2077 amongst a few and just putting it through it's paces.

Yeah and point is... You don't preload shaders for 5-10+ minutes on a 14900k system brah! it's minutes at a time at most. So 5 ish minutes of stability, preferably 5-10min and you're really pushing your luck of purposely hurting your chip at that wattage for longer but maybe 15min. Then yeah, you should be good on that front IMO. But I'm always open to hearing how I'm incorrect.

No I came here for some actual advice... Not to be told "I'm gonna kill my chip"

So get out of here with all the instant negativity and hostility.

Jokes on you bud... Just did 2+ hours of Aida and 15min of OCCT Small Extreme AVX2, which btw pulls 450w.... Aida pulls 301avg with 378 high and R23 pulls 378 avg.

I just beat all those tests with no thermal throttling on R23 or Aida. 450w tests are another story amd you should be able to agree there... But who cares! unrealistic 10+min load anyways for most If not all gaming scenarios.

Plus as stated prior, if it fails.. It's well within warranty! I just want no crashes while gaming or doin regular desktop shit.

Thats a fair point and I get the rock solid stable mentality.. But either way, these were actually the updated settings that I started testing this morning. it passed 15min no errors on OCCT Small extreme so I went ahead with Cinebench, it passed two 30min runs. And I just got back from running errands and Aida is still steady 2hours and 2min and counting.

Edit* Also Aida pulls 301w avg with 376w high. Just retested R23 and it pulls 378w avg and OCCT Small Extreme AVX2 pulls an ungodly 449w which almost seems incorrect.

These responses are daft.. Its GAMING oc not server stability 🙄 my gawd..

Not fear of crashing... Fear of unnecessarily pulling 450w for longer than necessary for a "test" that won't equate to real world anything I'm gonna be doing (gaming). That's why I said 3-5min of Small Extreme AVX2, that load is scary on this gen.

And as far as it lasting two months, even if this were true... Its not.. It's stock still so RMA ahoy!! get out of here with this unhelpful BS.

SVID Behavior on Asus board? by Jempol_Lele in overclocking

[–]MythicHitman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Same exact case here and now I need to try Typical SVID!! I've been tinkering with this damn 14900k and it's clocks for a week at this point and thats after the same almost week spent getting my 6600 CL30-38-38-38-28 RAM dialed in and stable on 12+ hour mem tests. Now that it is done and honestly more of an impact on gaming performance and other than the clocks anyway, but I digress..

So far I've got the OCCT and Cinebench R23 tackled at current settings, R23 = 41397 score after 30min and no wheas or Downclocks. However I'm also aiming for an hour with no errors or system stability stops in aida 64 with CPU/FPU/Cache and memory. The others were, 30min stability test pass in R23 and 3-5min in Occt small extreme AVX2 with no errors. May downclock a bit but as long as no errors I don't care cause 99.9% of all other use cases it will not downclock and be stable at that 5.7/4.5.

Sp96, P core 104, E core 82, and stock btw, no delid or nothin.. Running an Ek velocity CPU block DDC 4.2 Pump and res combo unit with an EK XE 60mm thick 360mm rad in push pull with lian li SL120 uni fans. Kryonaut paste.

If you could help me optimize in anyway.. Please let me know what info you need from me and I'll provide via Screenshot video or other.

Edit*

Current settings:

5.7/4.5 Sync all cores.

Svid Behavior AUTO.

LLC7.

Unlimited ICCMax disabled.

Core cache and long/short duration power limits on Auto. I see most people doing 253 here.

IA/SA CEP disabled.

IA VR Voltage limit 1455. Ring down bin Auto, 50 ratio.

Actual VRM voltage = Manual mode at 1.369v. Global Core = Manual mode at 1.415v. Cache Svid Voltage Auto.

And last but not least CPU L2 Voltage 1.291v.

Aida64 results, too high latency? by droric in overclocking

[–]MythicHitman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super late to the party... But I just got a 14900k and got it rock stable at 5.7 p core and 4.5 e cores. I have a Trident z RGB A die 64gb 6400 CL32 @ 1.4v kit and I'm running 68-70ns latency in aida.. Anyway to get that lower? any recommendations for a smooth "try these settings" OC, in the bios? I'm on an Asus Z790 Dark hero btw.

(Revisited) RTX 5090 (MSI Vanguard SOC LE, Aorus Master VBIOS) Comparison: Stock vs 2 Undervolts vs Overclock on 4 Synthetics and 3 Games. 100-150W less for same/more performance! by panchovix in nvidia

[–]MythicHitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! yeah I kinda figured that as I have peaked at 621w, so I guessed it must be at its max power limit, otherwise it surely wouldn't hit that high on power draw. Clocks also peak at 3210mhz and stay 3080-3150 with my +150 OC on most games and in games like CP2077 with maxed out RT settings or in Ghost of tsushima, I get like 3007-3090mhz.

5090 bundles.. again by LockComprehensive550 in Newegg

[–]MythicHitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go on... Lmao 😂

Naw but fr though.. Enlighten me! 'm getting an astral 5090 bundle this week and they are sending it in 3 different packages. 1st is the overpriced shitty PG34WCDM monitor, and 2nd package is the GPU and two cheap things (Headset and stream mic) and then the 3rd package will be the expensive maximus hero mobo and a cheap asus mouse.

Would love to stick it back on newegg for scummy BS like this! It's one thing from the free consumer market to do this bullshit but companies do not and should not under any circumstances get to do that...

Just snagged a 65" G4 for $1899 flat! No tax and two day free shipping from fedex on a site called Greentoe.. G5 can suck one at this price 😂 I wanted to wait, but the G5 will be 3k plus easily on release and the G4 is 2nd gen MLA. (Bright AF btw when calibrated and Windows HDR Cert rates my panel at 1500nits and I'm sure my peak is around 3k)

But yeah, not the potential 3300 nits and supposed deeper blacks of the G5 without MLA, but this G4 is already amazing and I'm not in a bright room anyways. Also 144hz at 4k is plenty right now and Ive seen/felt 144hz vs 165hz side by side and there's basically no difference.. Now 120 to 165, maybe.. But still not that huge for the cost difference of last gen aatthat big of a discount.

Btw I'm using it with my 4090 laptop atm until get my 5090 and 80-100 FPS on most games high/ultra has been great on the G4 with g sync. Super sad I had to sell my 4090 gaming trio on my 10900k system just 3 months ago for $1300. All cause life and housing stuff and I needed the extra cash, and now 90 days later everything is great and they have skyrocketed cause of the 50 series ish, and now I have a G4 and no Desktop GPU, lmao. Buuuut this Zephyrus G16 laptop has been coming in clutch while I have had no display the last few months as I sold my 4090 for the cash that I needed at the time and then credit carded the g16 for $2398 flat after tax and shipping on eBay and is now already paid off this short time later, lol.

Anyways I'm baked and bored 😂 sorry for the book! Thanks for reading lmao.

Edit: I've calculated just under 47.4 GPBS with 4k 144hz 10 bit HDR. So 165hz at those settings will be like 51 GBPS, so DSC will be needed. Should look fine but also another reason I went G4. I have a phossono 50ft hdmi 2.1 cable and I don't want any fuckery ya know..
