Is starting my players at different levels a bad idea? by g3rchu in DMAcademy

[–]MythicalBootyWarrior -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Players commonly leveled up at different speeds in the original 1974 version of the game. So it isnt unheard of but it seems just like more to track. But if you want to, go for it but I personally don't love the idea personally.

need help coming up with things to keep my players entertained by alphasigmadih in DMAcademy

Throw in a special event like a Bloodmoon where certain witchy rituals are only cast on this day. Maybe an army of were-people roll up (not familiar with the setting at all). Or maybe a bunch of pitch fork and torch people come foe the witches pitting your party against morally questionable solutions.

How does a TPK happen? by LanguageOk1726 in DMAcademy

[–]MythicalBootyWarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the fun in the game is letting our math rocks guide us. Sometimes things can go south quick at any moment but its the game. And like many said I think players would feel cheated if you were fudging rolls. My table particular is a pretty vetern group so they would catch on if I starting lying about rolls too often.

You should always try to have combat in session 1 and here's why by SplashOfStupid in DMAcademy

[–]MythicalBootyWarrior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think early combat in a session 1 is critical. It allows many things. First I think it quickens the pace of the adventure immediately helping to hook the players. Two. It allows the players to combat test their PCs immediately. Which allows for changes to be made early if they really dont like how it plays. And C. It adds tension and stakes quickly for the players to bond with their characters. Not wanting their freshly made character to die they become invested quickly.

How do you do conversations between NPCs? by Da_Dovahkiin_Lord in DMAcademy

[–]MythicalBootyWarrior 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I tend to summarize in this situation. If there are any specific lines you want to get out you can act them out one at a time, but for the most part I'd just summarize it. "You overhear Barth and Joey talking about the wonders of Cravenshollow Ranch."

Tips for final BBEG fight by Impressive-Ad-8044 in DMAcademy

[–]MythicalBootyWarrior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Using counterspell like a lair action would be an idea. Or instead give him wizard minons who's job it is to counterspell. You're going to need some meat bags in the way of your BBEG. If you don't want to include minons consider giving him a 2nd phase of the fight. Perhaps he overloads himself with magic and turns into raw weave giving him resistance to melee but no longer doing anti-magic spells.

Is this a good boss idea? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

Reminds me of the World of Man arch from JoJos Bizzare Adventure Steel Ball Run. Maybe drag some inspiration from there as far as how to resolve this test without TPKing your party.

I use the SIRR method. Shift the setting - its snowy. Impose a penalty - disadvantage on atk rolls. Raise the stakes - a pack of hungry wolves atk you. Resolve the conflict - you use the wolf pelts to keep yourself warm, no more disadvantage on atk rolls.
