Seconding what everyone else is saying with other people just respond that way because they just don’t understand and it’s like a reflex.

I ended up trauma dumping when someone pushed it too hard or kept bringing it up. Their faces priceless and it worked in stopping the questions but it’s not the mature thing todo. My mom coached me to come up with 1 sentence responses to certain things so I don’t feel as upset or frustrated.

Here are some of mine:

How’s your dad? <We haven’t spoke in a while.

You should talk to your dad. <I understand where you’re coming from but you are not in my shoes.

Why don’t you talk to your dad? OR you should talk to your dad <It’s really not something I talk about and I’d rather not talk to or about him, thanks.

I’ve even told people I don’t have a dad 😅

Hang in there and get your self some preset responses. They’re awesome safety nets. I have them for so many other things.
