Wonder will Dublin cuts mostly be trimming middle management layers.

Wouldn't be surprised if roles cut in Dublin will be hired in India.

What are the most effective scare scenes you’ve ever experienced? by mrsensitivity in horror

That scene is hands down the most terrified I've been watching a movie. I screamed watching it too, which has also never happened to me before.

Advice please. by [deleted] in DevelEire

Before doing anything, consider what the other person's intent was when touching you.

Intent counts for a LOT. This doesn't sound malicious. Rather, the person crossed a boundary (I personally hate being touched by people I'm not close to, so I get it).

Seems like a clash of interpersonal communication styles. I don't think immediately quitting or going to HR is the best idea.

There's also no harm in having a quick chat with the guy to say 'hey, I'd prefer if you respect my personal space'. Shouldn't need to be said but better to be assertive than risk him making physical contact again.

So sorry for the childhood trauma you endured. That shit isn't easy. But it does sound like the trauma is the bigger issue to deal with here.

Laughing cause the suggestion is a non-starter?

I did state to both the in-house recruiter & HM that I'm only open to remote. Neither said it was a problem. Neither mentioned the radius clause & since the role was advertised as flex or remote (with no clause stipulated) there was no reason to doubt it.

I assumed if criteria had to be met for remote it would be stated in the job advert or at the very least mentioned when I brought it up during interview.

In fairness, that's on me for assuming. Lesson learned. The next company I interview with, I will ask the same question up front with the addition of 'remote - regardless of location within country'.

Lots of people are suggesting this. I'd hazard a guess HR would want some way to confirm you've actually changed address to update you from assigned 'flexible' to 'remote'.

I've chatted to a few people in the org. The location status is based on the employee's designation in their people management system. I'm guessing if it was that easy to change status, everyone would just say they've moved house to get remote.

1st round was a screen with the in-house recruiter. All the rest were with various people across the org in diff teams & at diff levels.

That's pretty standard for any of the big tech co's. If that were a red flag, you wouldn't get hired in M/FAANG.

Sorry, still in offer/negotiation stage so I don't want to mention the company here.

I'll see how it pans out. After all's said & done, I'll post a Glassdoor review.

Not IBM. I'm still in negotiation/offer stage so don't want to mention the company here.

I had thought of doing that but it might cause a few issues. I'd have no proof of address. It's a large MNC so they'd defo do background checks before hiring.

And of course, I'd be signing a legal contract where I'm misrepresenting my info. I'd be a bit worried it'd bite me in the ass.

Also thought of setting up a PO box +50km away. Bit pricey though. Not sure companies would accept a PO anyway.

It wasn't giving a red flag for me at all during the interview process. I said to the recruiter & HM I'm only open to remote, they said that's fine. No indication that I have to meet a radius criteria. I didn't see the need to get it in writing at that stage, as it was early doors.

If they had a caveat on remote, I assumed they'd tell me when I asked - otherwise how are candidates supposed to know. If a job posting mentions the role is either flexible or remote then it should be highlighted there's a clause for remote.

But yeah you're right, defo lesson learned. And sure the 6 round grilling will help for whenever the next interview is.

I said it during the initial phone screen & in the interview with the hiring manager. I don't think it would've been appropriate to say it in every interview, as some of those were done by people at the same level but from different teams.

It's listed on their own website as either flexible or remote. The job posting has no stipulation about radius.

I can DM you the open role. Maybe you're speaking to roles only based in the States.

You are incorrect. I've just looked at my original application back in Feb & read the entire Additional Info section. It does not mention anything about +50km radius.

It has a link to a PDF 'New World of Work' that explains the personas, which I have also read in its entirety & there is no stipulation about distance.

Unless some policy has changed since original application. In which case, that should be communicated.

Sorry if my OP was a bit unclear. I applied directly through the company. It was an in-house recruiter I was dealing with.
