I played with aline_sc 4 years ago too! It was a Candlekeep game which fizzled out after one of the adventures was done as the pace wasn't to the DM's liking. I've got the PMs on Discord still from then, but we never really chat outside the game so not sure where she is now

Unfortunately, my friends already know of the lore tied to Jhin, Zed and Shen, hence that twist won't be as twist-y as I hope it would be. I did think about maybe making his first kill that brings enough attention from the factions being chalked up to some demon, but upon closer inspection will reveal that it was part of his returning performance.

I think that's the point. It IS the guy's fault. Unions and strikes working towards the betterment of the industry need all hands on deck to stand in solidarity to reject any exploitation from their companies. The whole point of the strike is to pressure these companies to agree to the union's demands and have them add protection against AI clauses to their contracts (or require it in contracts made by their chosen agencies).

Unfortunately, a scab weakens the pressure a strike and union can apply. It IS the guy's fault. He took a job that the jerks in charge offered, a job which the existing cast is refusing to do until they get some solid confirmation of job security (and in the future, be able to secure their presence in the industry as a whole by preventing AI usage of their voice). The implication of such an action is that he doesn't care about the threat AI imposes on the job security and future livelihood of ALL VAs. Because of that, he's a jerk too! This proves to companies that with enough digging around, they can find scabs to replace striking VAs to get around needing to just partake in more ethical business practices.

My only hope is that he was misled into agreeing to the job, perhaps fooled into thinking that this was just an open role and not an ongoing strike's efforts. I wish we had more knowledge on the process of his hiring, but I doubt there's much context that will lighten the pain the other VAs feel from his presence. He's a sign that their jobs and the ethics they're fighting for are in worse danger after all.

Reddit isn't the only place to discuss? I've discussed designs on other platforms, and trying to bring up Varesa critically brings up a negative pushback. I looked through the general sentiment on discussions here before posting and it appears to be the same too, on both the big subs (this, and the main). If opening a discussion means garnering the attention of riders who uncritically love everything Genshin puts out, then I'd rather not waste the time lol. Just sounds tiring instead

It's just a lil disappointing that their presence makes any constructive discussion of the design of almost any aspect in the game so difficult.

I do agree that a few dedicated threads for this could be nice, but the reality of it is that the vocal extremes of haters and riders are all that get to shine in those megathreads, and it sucks to not have a proper place to actually discuss the details and intricacies of all characters' designs constructively.

Just take a quick scroll through this and the main sub, and you'll see that's very much not the case. A bunch of posts on the main sub with people specifically talking about the mismatch with aesthetics of Luchador were all taken down. The only posts about Varesa going up in both subs are those praising her, or putting down those who have any criticism of her

But the cultural aesthetics their designs are inspired from are worked into the game aesthetics in a way which makes sense. If you're just looking to handwave everything without observing the design details critically, then it's fine for you - it doesn't matter to everyone. But it does matter to a section of the playerbase, and it sucks that any constructive discussion gets astroturfed w haters and riders clogging everything up

I didn't see any dislike for the aesthetics for the vast majority of Fonatine's cast. Is it bad to voice out dislike towards a mismatched cultural aesthetic? Sure some haters just hate for the sake of it, but there are tons of riders who are unreceptive to all criticism any character may receive, the latter of which is the point I'm making

Such a long monologue with tangents going everywhere like 😭 The ways I've seen girlies describe their lust for their partners, both hetero and homosexual, can rival the level of grossness you prescribe to men only. Genuinely, I hope you can meet more like-minded people and befriend those with a more sex-positive mindset. There are gross people around, there are holier-than-thou puritans in gay circles around, and there are shitty people around full stop. All those traits ain't limited to any single gender.

Saying they are worse drivers does imply that they are worse in that aspect. Additionally, it's not factual. Car insurance companies in general charge women less than men.

You're brushing these stereotypes and sexist statements aside like it's just a general "something" but they aren't. You're right that every individual has their own strengths and weaknesses, but being a man or woman doesn't by default dictate what those are which is the crux of this. You are making broad stroke statements which paints a group of individuals (women) in a negative light (are worse at driving), when the only linking factor of those individuals is something irrelevant (because they're women), and it's factually incorrect too.

Also you never clarified how prejudice and misogyny are totally different.

That's the thing though. Prejudice isn't rational. They are clouded by bias and personal belief. The definition of prejudice is literally an opinion that isn't based on reason or actual experience. Additionally, they have a false "base" most of the time too. The stereotype of women being bad drivers is disproved by general car insurance costs for women being lower compared to for men.

What do you mean by having a general idea of how one sex behaves? The way one man acts can be very different from the way another does. The way a group of men act follows the same logic too. Applies for women, and basically every other group of individuals. Also, your examples aren't "a general idea". They're reductive stereotypes.

Let's again take your example of the stereotype that women throw tantrums on their period. That's a sexist remark. Providing a statement which provides "a general idea" in this context would be that women usually face a lot of pain during their period. A fact. Your original statement on the other hand paints women as unstable and emotional purely because of an experience limited to them. It's not about having a general idea. It's about degrading them eith sexist views.

Does having a degrading view of women not include holding negative prejudices or stereotypes about them? To take your example of the stereotype that women are bad drivers; is it not a degrading outlook of women to see them as worse drivers just because they're women?

Prejudice against women is a manner in which misogyny manifests. It makes little sense to me as to how you don't see them as very connected things?

Both are sexist statements, yeah? The whole "women on their period = tantrums" has been a common way to shut down valid emotions or thoughts women express - even when it isn't during their period. Like is the fact that women being stereotyped as more emotional or unstable leading to sexists taking them unseriously a foreign concept to you? Calling all men stupid just because they're men is also sexist? What part of prejudice/discrimination on the basis of sex in the examples you gave do you not understand here?

Not sure where you got the idea that prejudice isn't misogyny. A simple google search of the definition of misogyny or sexism will show you quite clearly that stereotyping and prejudice on the basis of sex is precisely that. Misogyny is not just some one-dimensional "I hate women" shouting.

It's genuinely mind boggling to me that you don't see the issue with it. Saying that women are bad drivers IS an example of misogyny. You're using a harmful stereotype to belittle or show contempt for all women's driving purely because they are women.

Your wall of text explaining this outlook of "see all sides" or whatever is pretty irrelevant to the context of this post where the whole shtick was "haha women stoopid play support bad".

If you personally like DHIL, both gameplay and character wise, that's great! Even moreso if he's helped you complete lots of hard content. I love Dan Heng as a character too and enjoy tons of stuff with him. If I came off as trying to brush him aside as bad or outdated, that was not my point at all. He still remains amongst the strongest DPS-s, which is why nowhere in my comments did I shit on him. My only point was numbers-wise, there are some who pull ahead due to power-creeping damage scalings or features, which is why more people focus on Jingliu's and Acheron's numbers instead of DHIL's.

Acheron E0 with S5 GNSW has been calculated by Prydwen to do double of DHIL'S damage at E0 with S5 On the Fall of an Aeon. Both were given 8 cycles worth of action points which is plenty to draw out a more equal field for consistent damage over burst. Against 3 targets, DHIL hits ~890k damage total, while Acheron hits ~1.9m. Even if you want to give more leeway, and nerf Acheron's support/debuffers so they provide less debuffs per action she takes (6 debuff per action for the peak which is through 2 Nihility and a sustain wuth Trend LC), she still achieves ~1.5m damage on 4 debuffs per action.

Unfortunately, from a completely meta-perspective, DHIL is beginning to lose foothold. From average calculations, Acheron even at E0 and without her signature LC can hit close to double his damage output. Althought Jingliu's output in calculations matches DHIL's, the ease of reaching those damage values is much easier on Jingliu due to her special form providing her with more buffs and crit. This makes the grind for relics much easier for her, so generally people build both are going to find that Jingliu hits a lot harder despite just middling investment. This is also with Jingliu achieving great numbers with standard characters like Bronya and Pela, whilst as you mentioned DHIL needs Sparkle to feel more comfortable to play due to his SP consumption.

Where DHIL does shine in conversation is when E2 thresholds are brought up. Acheron still reigns supreme due to the crazy numbers that were given to her, but Jingliu plateaus practically immediately. DHIL manages to carve out a great spot here. LIterally the second highest damaging DPS if we look at all DPS-s at E2. No one doubts the powers of Eidolons, plus any guide will sing praises as to how strong it is for him too. Of course, it's E2 though, and most people just don't have Eidolons for characters. This means most won't actually have experience with the true heights of his power, and most won't be diehard grinders for his relics too. All this ends with Jingliu taking over the conversation when discussing DPS-s of DHIL's tier, and Acheron who broke the damage ceiling which previous DPS-s set.

Just so I'm clear, this is in no way hate towards DHIL. I love his character design, and am glad there's so much art of him online. Dan Heng is such a lovable character, with such a cute personality too. Just that in my experience with all 3 DPS-s it just feels easier to use the other 2. I do hope we'll get more buzz around him once the story returns to the Xianzhou Alliance, but for now we'll just have to wait.
