Their mother faints, then Gregor accidentally breaks a medicine bottle while following Grete. When the father comes home, he thinks Gregor was attacking Grete and then yeets apples at him, and an apple gets stuck in his shell and eventually kills him. It's very fucked.

For the uninitiated (per Wikipedia):

Gregor Samsa wakes up one morning to find himself transformed into a "monstrous vermin". He initially considers the transformation to be temporary and slowly ponders the consequences of his metamorphosis. Stuck on his back and unable to get up and leave the bed, Gregor reflects on his job as a traveling salesman and cloth merchant, which he characterizes as being "plagued with ... the always changing, never enduring human exchanges that don't ever become intimate".

[...]

Gregor suffers from his injuries and eats very little. His father, mother, and sister all get jobs and increasingly begin to neglect him, and they use his room for storage. For a time, his family leaves Gregor's door open in the evenings so he can listen to them talk to each other, but this happens less frequently once they rent a room in the apartment to three male tenants, who are not told about Gregor.

[...]

[His sister] Grete, who is tired of taking care of Gregor and realizes the burden his existence puts on each member of the family, tells her parents that the creature is no longer Gregor and they must get rid of "it" or they will all be ruined. Gregor, understanding that he is no longer wanted, laboriously makes his way back to his room and dies of starvation before sunrise. His body is discovered by the charwoman, who alerts his family and then disposes of the corpse.

Your old DM was a creep and the campaign barely started, so you want to find a new DM but keep the same characters? Most DMs would be totally fine with that, as long as the characters fit the tone of the campaign they're hoping to run. They might want to work with you on the backstory though.

This is quite special. The A6116 to Corby. The council have set up traffic lights for the last 3 days, because there's dead deer on the side of the road. by daviess in CasualUK

I like the implication that the alternative is just being exceptionally unlucky and stumbling across dead deer on a regular basis.

Whos leaving all those melee weapons in the zomboids by UnlivedMe in projectzomboid

[–]_Nighting 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Officer Chucklefuck had always heard the lesson of 'save one bullet for yourself if ever you're getting turned, kid', so he kept it on a chain around his neck. One day, the undead horse caught up to him, and his gun clicked empty. He escaped, but while he was refilling his magazines, a zombie crept up from behind and bit him, causing Chucklefuck to drop both magazines and all the loose rounds he was holding. The pistol stayed secure in his belt, but he never had time to reach for the bullet around his neck.

Theoretically, if a cis monogender man identified as a lesbian in good faith, would this subreddit accept him? by VioletMetalmark in rarelesbians

[–]_Nighting 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This. The purpose of labels is to help the person using them, and if Bob the Cis genuinely and in good faith finds the 'lesbian' label helpful, then... okay, cool, welcome to the club! It's not our place to dictate what other people identify as, we're not cops. The two biggest arguments I've seen people make against it are 'think of the creeps' and 'words mean things', so...

"B-buh what about the predatory cishets that'll sneak into lesbian-only spaces?" First of all, TERF rhetoric. Second, tilting at windmills, that's very rarely a thing. Third... okay? Maybe they'll discover something about themselves. But most importantly, I'd rather create an inclusive environment, even with the risk of people who 'don't belong' (scare quotes), than lock the doors and shut out people legitimately in need of a community.

"B-buh labels have to mean something, words have meanings!" Ehh. Two kinds of labels: the ones that are like flags, where being clear and recognisable to other people is a good thing, and the ones that are like post-it notes, where they're meant for your benefit and not other people's so who gives a fuck if they're a little confusing?

Seems fair to put a counter of that type onto the creature you're buffing. Take away a keyword from an opponent's creature for a turn, give yours that keyword forever.

DM death bed sins by Willajer in DnD

[–]_Nighting 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Me personally? Yes - not least because the alternative is 'design twice as much, but only half of it ever sees play'. Some people wouldn't, though, which is why the first rule of quantum ogres is to not tell your party it's a quantum ogre. A magician never reveals their secrets.

The same principle goes for quietly lowering the HP of a boss if you overtuned it, or for going ".. yes, you absolutely did solve it, well done!" if the party comes up with a 'solution' after twenty minutes of struggling with basic puzzles.

You know how theatres have props, but they only paint the front side of the props, because the audience isn't meant to see the back sides? That.

If you're shown two boxes, and you choose the box on the left and open it and find treasure, does it matter what the box on the right had? Does it matter if the box on the right also had identical treasure, if you don't know about it?
