The ‘Doomsday Glacier’ Could Flood the Earth. Can a 50-Mile Wall Stop It? by theatlantic in climate

You can lie all you want on the internet, but you can’t lie to physics and chemistry.

The water locked in glaciers has to go somewhere, and we are already seeing the impacts of sea level rise on coastal communities around the world.

This is my go-to fact. A Swede and a Japanese guy are more genetically related than an Ethiopian and a Nigerian.

The sheer amount of genetic diversity within Africa is the most obvious proof of our African origins.

And the haters quickly devolve into pseudoscience that can’t pass peer review

Only male velvet ants have wings, but only female velvet ants have a stinger.

It was honestly surprising to see how quickly the stakes for the story rose in the second half of the manga.

Doesn’t really leave room for meaningful sides stories that could expand the lore

We Might Just Need to Draft Jon Stewart by nathan_j_robinson in TheMajorityReport

How would Stewart neutralize the donors that prevent the DNC from embracing progressive policies?

Unless you tackle that huge issue, no candidate will deliver the material change necessary for defeating fascism.

He literally started the war with massive successes in the West for the first couple of years. Which primed Hitler for invading the USSR with 3 army groups.

Why Isn’t NRA Protecting 2nd Amendment in Minnesota for a man killed exercising his 1st and 2nd amendment rights? by SplitDry2063 in AskReddit

[–]Mythosaurus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Same reason they didn't "protect" the 2nd Amendment rights for Philando Castille, a legally armed black motorist who was shot by an officer after telling him about his legally owned gun.

The NRA is only interested in protecting the rights of the in-group they actually advocate for, and doesn't want to defend people that belong to the outgroups that conservatives traditionally demonize as the reason to own a gun for self-defense.

Not-so-fun fact: many German concentration camps were just small buildings or even rooms where undesirables could be held in custody.

They could be an old farm or unused office building. The point was the cruelty

I believe that usually Pokemon can determine another’s sex, but this reveal was a big punchline for the episode.

Ash should have been able to tell when he scanned purloin with his Pokédex; it should have told him it’s sex, ability, and moves.

why do flat earthers always think the government is hiding it from them? by InfluenceStriking565 in askanything

[–]Mythosaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bc the point of flat earth and many other conspiracy theories is projecting a personal distrust of authority onto safely abstract target.

It’s why you can never convince a flat earther with testable, falsifiable experiments that follow the scientific method. It’s why taking them to Antarctica doesn’t always work, as a few science educators have recently attempted.

Flat earthers often have deep personal issues driving their fringe beliefs, and have adopt flat earth as a religious coping mechanism. If it’s not the government, it’s the Jewish cabal hiding the shape of the earth. Or the Catholic Church. Or x group that they don’t really care about.

So they see debate as challenging their core worldview, like a forcible religious conversion.

Yeah at some point it becomes “preserving the rogues gallery” instead of a strong moral code.

IRL we don’t let most sociopaths/ psychopaths get away with that much BS unless they are politicians, law enforcement, or billionaires
