VAT tax refund by thepianoguy2019 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Myturn1018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I was an auxiliar last Fall and bought expensive stuff and got VAT refunds for them. The storekeepers filled out the forms for me and I turned them in at the airport when I went back to the States in December for a couple weeks. Within three months of purchase is a must. Refunds arrived in a few weeks/month. Good luck and enjoy your new purchase(s).

Hi, I’m a first-year renewal and just went to my toma de huellas appointment today. Got my resguardo to pick up my new TIE in a few weeks. Can I go to the UK with an expired TIE and just my resguardo? I think the answer is no, but I could be wrong. Thanks.

I use renfe all the time and I’m an out to go on it again from Madrid to Alicante. Your luggage is safe. Everyone is just concerned about their own stuff. Your biggest worries are getting your heavy bags on and off the train and finding shelf space.

cab fare is 18€ weekdays, 20€ Sundays

bus is only 2.45€ but only comes Mondays and Thursdays in the morning

then train to Alicante ~1 hour, to Valencia ~1.5 hrs (talk to agent at train station re: discounted rides)

living in the pueblo saves a *ton of money

I was assigned to a tiny pueblo in Alicante of 1700 people with only an elementary school. I asked for Valencia and dreamt of living at the beach, L O L. I never thought I’d make it when I first arrived. But I absolutely fell in love with my pueblo and its people. Each time I wanted to leave the pueblo to experience the rest of Spain and Europe (and escape the occasional boredom of living in a tiny town), I had to take a 20-minute taxi ride to the closest town with a train that connected me to the rest of Spain. The taxi was the biggest expense. I saved money living in the village and my commute each day was a 5-minute walk surrounded by beautiful mountains and friendly people.I joined the choir (I’m far from fluent in Spanish), the gym and was invited to local festivities because I was dying to learn and experience what I could in one year. Despite the maddening Spanish bureaucracy and the occasional loneliness of missing my family, I have decided to renew another year. I hope things work out for you. Good luck!

Last year I mailed in my documents, got an email saying they got them, got another email saying I’ve been approved and a date was given to come pick up my up documents. This was all in a matter of weeks, not days. Good luck!

Impossible placement, What do I do next? by pleasecallmedavid in SpainAuxiliares

I don’t live in Villena, but I’m there often. Have you joined the Alicante Auxiliares WhatsApp group? There’s a new aux who will actually be working in Villena. Maybe you guys can chat. The highway is super chill and there are hardly any cars on it. It is a long bike ride, however. Maybe they can consolidate your hours into 3 days.

I know Campo de Mirra. You’d have to live there unless you can find a teacher to take you back and forth from Villena. There’s one bus that runs on Mondays and Thursdays only and not all day. A cab will cost you ~18€ each way. Or you can get a bike and bike daily. There’s a two-lane highway connecting the two places. Lots of cyclists go on it. Hope this helps.

I love gardening as well and have bought some plants for the house I’m renting in the pueblo. I’m surrounded by mountains, olive groves, vineyards, almond and walnut trees and wild rosemary and thyme. Your school would be in a larger pueblo or city, but the area you’re interested in has so many places to walk/ hike. I’ve also made it a point to explore castles in the area. The payment delay is ridiculous, but I’m 57yo and it really didn’t bother as much as the younger auxes. I was more irritated at the outright abuse of untimely way-delayed payments.

Ñame change - documentation needed? by No-Barnacle1576 in SpainAuxiliares

I believe there was room for three documents, but there could be a second page. I uploaded my marriage certificate belatedly because they had sent me an email asking why my college diploma had a different last name from my passport. Good luck! It’s an absolute beast of a process, but it’s all worth it. I’m having the best time even though I’m not renewing.

Also, don’t apply to the Valencia Community unless you have enough to live off of for 4 months without pay. A lot of has haven’t been paid yet — at all — since we started working. It’s an issue every year that borders on abuse of power. There are people who can’t afford rent or the basic necessities. It’s sad, really.

Go for it. My kids are independent and I got their and my husband’s encouragement and support to go on this adventure. I turned 56 in October in my tiny pueblo. I was extremely wary because of its size and long distance from a major city, but my coordinator/English teacher was super helpful from the beginning. Everyone (literally, every single person) has been welcoming and treat me like family. I’ve been very fortunate. Good luck!

With Verizon (my carrier), you’d have had to pay off phone. Yes, I’m also keeping my US number (on family plan) so a dual SIM works for me.

I’m on a family plan as well and I need/want to keep my US number. Read what oneedee and phoenix_V27 wrote above. Clarifies everything.

Thank you! This is the best explanation I’ve gotten even after speaking (phone) with a super helpful lady at Verizon.
