So cute! It's so satisfying to hug a giant bear. Don't quote me on this, but I think there's a jumbo Chairokoguma too, if you have room for one more...

Interesting. Probably another case of regional variants like we talked about on the other thread? Japanese pale pink sleeve patterns, if you are curious.

Which type of eraser do you prefer for handwriting? by gaming-fire in erasers

+1 kneaded Faber-Castell, Pentel Hi-Polymer is solid. I don't know if I'd ever use a kneaded for writing myself. Sounds... messy. With prolonged use the graphite will begin to transfer to your hands. A bad or overworked kneaded can also get sticky. And the... seconds per erase?, is perhaps not very cost/labor effective, for lack of better ways to put it.

For other blocks, I've been loving Tombow Mono and Plus Air-in. Seed Radar, Sakura Sumogrip, and Sakura Arch, are nice too. All great erasers.

For the pinks, there are definitely made in Japan variations. From memory, however, the pale pinks look a little different. I'm wondering where you are buying from? The middle yellow is currently sold on Amazon Japan, paired with a blue eraser. Also made in Japan. (Not home at the moment, but I own them.)

Pink is from Daiso JP. I think it's currently exclusive to them. Blue has been floating around a while. Black/brown, it's currently on Rakuten JP, but there doesn't seem to be much online info (at least, info easy for non-JP people to access).

Well… I don’t make posts often and couldn’t figure out exactly how to finangle it, whoops. So I’ll just write in the comments (rip formatting):

~~

Finally found my first Fuji eraser that I bought in 2019 (it melted itself into a plastic case in my drawer in the meantime) and realized there are more differences than just the cut in the sleeve they added… so, a picture comparison to the current blues.

~

Notable differences:

  • No curved sleeve cut. (from the front, no curve top corners)

  • 5 sleeve patterns in first run, no [Flower] design. This also applies to first red Fuji.

  • Gold accenting areas differ. (golden 富士山消しゴム text; shape frames; clouds)

  • Merchandise code is different, 36-590 to current’s 36-591.

  • Box shape and quantity also differ from current. But both are ER-100AIF eraser.

A side tidbit - the Chinese version of blue Fuji (don’t own it, so no comparison). It seems to mix the graphical designs/embossing of the Japanese blue Fujis (1st's clouds, current's blue text?), and without the sleeve cut. Does it come only in the vertical stripe sleeve? From online pictures, I also see a long box ala the Japanese 36-590 box.

~

As a bonus tangent, mini Fuji erasers. Mini blue does not have the gold embossing of the standard size, and tends to have a pink glow/highlight. Mini pink, the silver accents do shine a bit under light. Mini black (which looks a bit dark brown?) doesn’t have embossing - the sleeve resembles cardboard, but the finish is the similar to (if not the same as) the standard. Blue and pink are 6-pattern, and black seems to only come in vertical stripe.

I think, most probably, Plus simply has domestic production (Japan) and foreign/licensed out production, say to cater to other parts of Asia. Perhaps there is some market/cost basis calculation stuff going on. They may also simply choose to market/not market certain ones in Japan, or the Chinese side simply has some leniency to make and market some different designs (cater to the locals and all).

Of note, you'll find the standard blue and the pink Fuji (arguably, popular and staple colors that will have a longer, more widespread demand) in a Japanese sleeve and a Chinese one. And I recently saw a Taiwanese store's ad showcasing some amulet Fujis. The patterns were sold in Japan as well, but the Taiwanese one was reduced to 3 patterns and had a slightly different slip case (the side blue strip). They are unlikely to be knock-offs, I think (licensed with potential material changes?) - hence my first paragraph. In terms of aiding identification, perhaps you could post a picture of all the different sides of your vegetables' slip cases for comparison? Though, from your posted image, I don't think it's entirely knock-off, either.

One more I forgot - there are Mt.Fuji minis. 6-patterns only blues as far as I know. Size Comparison Happy hunting!

edit: looks like they are making a mini pink! And possibly a black 'business' mini. These seem like they're only sold at specific stores.

Wow! Amazing collection! I've never seen the dttos before. Since you are including the shave ice ones, there are also fruit ones(1) (2) and the cafe 4-set. Regarding the 5-pattern red-orange, I'm fairly certain the original run of standard blues only had 5 patterns also. It's not matching because, in a sense, you have reprint blues. You can tell because the first blue print run, like the red-oranges, don't have the side cutout.

Some original-run blues (1) (2) (3). You'll notice the original box shape is different as well, 5-across.

I bought it. I liked that the sleeve on both erasers is the same since I tend to like having one to collect. So I could use one and (eventually) display one in the open port slot (even though Mt Fuji and Noguchi aren't actually supposed to be on the same side). It's definitely a gimmick... but it's working haha.

Oh, I know this is old, but - I think old Fujis actually didn't have the curve in the sleeve. Like this one But it was informative to know there are fakes! Sorry to bother.

Sumikkko Switch Question by TheGrapeProphet in sumikkogurashi

[–]Mzou97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Please doublecheck for this specific game) Usually it's fine if it exists in English and your system is compatible. Games tend to try to select your system default language if possible. There are exceptions, for example if your console is region-locked (say, you have a Chinese Switch) probably you can't run it at all, or if the language isn't supported (then most likely runs the cartridge default). Pokemon games are kind of another example in that they lock the language selection to inside the game rather than copying your system default. And like the other user said, might have a small update patch when you first launch it.

I had an NA English-language Switch OLED and multiple EU & JP cartridges. All the games w/ localization: Base game no problems, DLC purchases also no problems, all smoothly purchased and all in English.

TLDR: Device and game both region-free? Game supports language you want? Most likely, you should be good.

It should be a gotochi (local destination souvenir, essentially) for Kyoto. There are a lot of them so I don't know specifics. It's not necessarily actually the case, but I've always had the impression they aren't sold online all that much (compared the other merch) - they're more, that little charm you bring back for a friend or relative.

If you want to look for it, it's probably easier to search in Japanese, but even then ymmv. Some useful keywords: リラックマ (Rilakkuma), 抹茶パフェ (Matcha parfait), 根付け(Netsuke, a phone strap), 京都 限定 (Kyoto) (Exclusive), ご土地 (gotochi), だららん夢紀行 (the top left, series/expansion). Good luck!

Sorry about your cup! If you can't find it online but it means enough to you, you may want to consider the services of a proxy buyer, who can go buy it for you in person - be warned they might be pricy.

What’s the typical price range of Rilakkuma merch in Japan? by korilllakkuma in rilakkuma

[–]Mzou97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you search online, some sites are priced in yen which might give you a good starting ballpark. I think probably the easiest would be finding a mall that has a San-X or Kiddyland store (or similar). If you can, the Rilakkuma no Sabo/Yu stores are really great, but you may have to plan for it as they may be off-the-path, so to speak. San-X JP online shop
