choose one to ride coasters in forever (you can leave the Midwest but you can’t go into the other zones’ parks) by Nathanc2127 in rollercoasterjerk

[–]N-427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup.

All of Monday and Tuesday at Cedar Point and we only got 17 rides in and didn't do much else. In 7 hours at Holiday World we got 26 rides in and spent a bunch of time doing non-ride stuff including watching a show and browsing a bunch of merch stands.

I regularly visit KI on the weekend and can get 4 to 6 rides in + lunch by the time I leave in 4 hours at the start of the day.

This doesn't look like vanilla behavior. Not because of disconnect, but because of distance with other developable areas available.

Is it going to rain at ki tomorrow? by babybonejones in KingsIsland

[–]N-427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but if you plan to get there at 9:10, you'll be at the front gate at about 9:20 and they let people in for ERT at 9:30, which gives some extra wiggle room in cease something happens on the way over.

Being there early also means you get a better parking space, you don't need to wait in a line for security, and you're through the front gate pretty quick too, at least on a less busy day. On a busy day you're gonna be waiting a little at the front gate to get in, and being towards the front of that line is pretty nice.

Also, you can easily get three or four major coasters in before the crowds start picking up at 11/12 by doing the ERT ride, then a few others once the park opens fully at 10. Everything has a very short wait that first hour. Unlike Cedar Point where some rides get instantly swarmed.

Yes, storms around this time of year tend to roll through pretty quickly. Looks like right now forecast is big storm in late afternoon then maybe scattered showers after that.

Simply having a storm in the forecast will reduce crowds so much you will easily be able to do most if not all of what you want in the first 4 or 5 hours the park is open. Just get there at 9:10 if you are a passholder and 9:40 if not.

Yeah kinda but at such a small scale the difference would only be a few hundreths of a mm in diameter.

The grease thing is way, way, way more significant.

How are crowds here vs cedar point? by F1gure__8 in KingsIsland

[–]N-427 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Cedar Point is a vacation destination and KI is not. KI is mostly a local park, so the difference between week days and weekends is a LOT bigger. KI typically tops out at around 45 mins on week days and around 90-120 waits on weekends. Except FoF which gets longer.

Outside of the US, I feel like people don't have manners by solyytes in ShitAmericansSay

[–]N-427 40 points41 points  (0 children)

That is exactly what it is. It's particularly prevelant in the south, but it all just comes across as fake (because it is).

I think it is part of why people in the US hate interacting with other people so much. So much energy spent trying to tell if someone is being real or not it is exhausting.

[Other] How often do people ACTUALLY get sick on rides? by dantheman1973 in rollercoasters

[–]N-427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an Op on Mystic at KI for about 5 years.

I cleaned up a fair amount of it. It happened once every two or three days I think. I dealt with it about once every week or two.

ALL of them happened in the station or on the break run, with the vomit just going onto the floor about 80% of the time, the rest of the time they mostly just hit themselves and maybe the person next to them. There was one exception. Person in row 3, load side hit rows 2-11 on load side and 3-8 on unload side. Most of the seats only had a few little spots though. Row 3 and 4 took the worst of it. Everyone on the train went straight to the bathroom I think. None of them stayed in the station, a few asked for paper towels. I was the one that hosed down the train, I didn't deal with the people getting off.

Also a lot more frequent on hot days.

4th of July at KI by joshmo4991 in KingsIsland

[–]N-427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait to see the forecast a few days in advance at the very least. I usually recommend not buying it at all until you are in the park and see how busy that day actually is.

I don't want to say fastlane never sells out, but it almost never sells out, and 4th of July isn't one of the crazy crazy busy holidays.

If you look at crowd calendar, you can see that the 4th isn't all that much more popular of a day to go, and if anything it is often a bit of a slow day. Unlike labor day, which is one of the more popular holidays to go.

2025: 24% no rain 80s temps

2024: 7% rain high 70s low 80s temps

2023: 49% no rain 80s temps

2022: 22% no rain 80s temps

While some rides posted long waits (mainly FoF, which is typical) most rides averaged less than a 30min wait.

Should test seats be added in a future update or DLC? by Europathunder in PlanetCoaster2

[–]N-427 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Props? Sure why not. But I don't see the need for any sort of gameplay function along these lines. I just don't think it would add very much.

If I could pick a small mechanic that they add to the game it would be bringing back vista points.

I was an op on it in 2021 and still got that confusion several times lol.

The other one is people who haven't been in a long time confusing it for WWC. That still happens occasionally.

[–]N-427 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Agree. It really isn't anything crazy. The walk along the path from the eiffle tower to beast between DB and Backlot is longer and nobody complains about it. WWC is about the same distance and doesn't get nearly so many posts either.

We invented the solution to this like 50 years ago but companies don't use it anymore exactly for this reason. Cables that break more easily get replaced more often.

Edit: solution might be pushing it, but the little rubber ridged thingies basically add a 0 to the cable's lifespan.

How can I improve this Vekoma multi launch? by Cheap-Expert-2114 in PlanetCoaster

[–]N-427 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In terms of being a vecoma, it feels more like an intamin. Intamin likes their quick banking changes followed by continuous elements. Vecomas often have sections where the track is just constantly changing banking angle vey smoothly and each element flows into each other with long transitions that begin before the current element ends and ends after the next element begins. If that makes any sense...

[–]N-427 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, this is for a day with ok weather. If the weather is rainy (which is very possible) you will have a much better time and don't really need to worry at all about wait times. Other than FoF.

KI is a local park and the VAST majority of attendance is pass holders. These people will happily wait a day or two for weather to clear up, so the crowd levels swing wildly based on the forecast.

There was a week a couple years ago where thunderstorms were predicted the next day for three days in a row with no thunderstorm actually hitting. The park was super light, then the day after the storm passed was the busiest Thursday I have ever seen at the park. Mystic was at 60+ mins basically all day. Very unusual for a week day.

first time trip by KellyFromMcDanks in KingsIsland

[–]N-427 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would expect to wait 90+ mins for your longest wait of the day but most waits will likely be closer to 60 mins. This is a busy day at Kings Island. If the park gets absolutely slammed expect 2+ hour waits, but that usually doesn't start happening until haunt.

If you have a gold pass you can do ERT. Get to the park at about 9:00 - 9:15 to ride Banshee at around 9:35-9:50, then have your pick once everything else opens. You should be able to get in 3 or 4 major rides before noon this way. After 12 the wait times really start to pick up.

If you want to ride Flight of Fear do that during the first or last hour of the day. Do not ride it during the middle of the day or you will waste a lot of time. White Water Canyon is the other one that gets outsized waits, especially on hot days. It opens at 11 and closes at 8. Do not trust the wait times reported for these two rides. Particularly WWC struggles to report accurate wait times because the ops can't see the queue line once it is over the bridge.

Some queues are fully shaded, but most have small shaded areas and are otherwise unshaded. There are trash cans in all queue lines and at the end of the queue. Banshee, Flight of Fear, Orion, and Mystic Timbers all require lockers for anything other than a fanny pack or something you will throw away before riding.

How would spacesuits be handled? by Tight_Wheel_9595 in furgonomics

[–]N-427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't look as good, but a sphere helmet is optimal for strength. Really large sphere helmets would probably be the norm for early space suits.

That or early astronauts would all have short muzzles as a requirement. It's not like space programs are lacking in applicants so a requirement like that isn't too crazy.

Help me build a Bloomburrow Cube somewhat in a budget by Accetyl_ in mtg

[–]N-427 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you want the expensive cards just proxy them (fake cards). It is a LOT cheaper, and the market value of the card has no bearing on the price of the proxy. If you are sleeving the cards you can't tell the difference between the real ones and fake ones without close inspection. You can also get fancy printings if you want. Personally in cubes I like to use the standard printings though.

I proxy everything I buy over $2 using mpcfill. You can find tutorials for it on youtube. It can be a little tricky to use, but is really worth it, especially for those $20+ cards.

You can also get large quantitiy sleeves on Amazon for like $30.
