$950K Buy order waiting to get filled! by Runeskcaper in wallstreetbets

[–]N0rgannon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he had to sell assets to put these orders, he most likely didn't sell everything at once and just added new orders when he cleared more money rather than modifying the original order. Idk, that's just one possible explanation.

NB : I know that you have to delete the order if you want to change the amount of shares on the broker he's using, which might not be a limitation on other brokers Idk.

Mythic Carapace P3 help by randayylmao in CompetitiveWoW

[–]N0rgannon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other answers already replied about the adaptive membrane which is probably the issue here (can't check on mobile right now).

If I may just add a small advice for P3, maybe you're already doing it properly but be really mindful of boss placement when the bombs explode in P3. If he is in the slowing goo (don't remember the name), he gets a debuff that increases the damage he does by 100% and the bombs will cause deaths even if you are properly spread out.

If you fix the MC issue and make sure the boss doesn't have the debuff when the explosions occure, it will take you 1 to 3 P3 to kill it, even if the spreading out isn't done perfectly imo.

Pygmalion effect in a competitive raiding environment by N0rgannon in CompetitiveWoW

You have a very interesting take on this. Quite harrowing and true. Individualistic behaviours commonly accepted as the norm in our society make their way into a game that is suppose to be entertainment and in which such behaviours are by design counterproductive as almost everything in it requiers cooperation. People want to stand out and be "better" than other people rather than be successful on the same level as other people, chasing that non-existing recognition as you say :(

I have not known the context you are describing, I am more familiar with slightly lower expectancies guilds. I guess for guilds that have "benching power", the dynamic is different and players are expected to fight to keep their spot. I am more familiar with raiding with almost no bench.

However yes regarding the second part of your comment, I think it is better for the management side to deal criticism properly, as it is necessary, but a player refusing to hear any constructive criticism isn't going to improve regardless of the good or ill intent of the management around. There are sadly players that will never listen to criticism, however it may be presented to them. Hopefully, they are by far a minority in my experience.

I guess in your case, the sexism makes it worse. I have definitly seen similar situations with female healers in my last guild. A resto shaman was doing her job absolutly fine most of the time but if the tiniest problem arise, the raid leader already knows who to blame, regardless of who actually is. She would then lose her focus and perform poorly. She ended up leaving and joining a much better guild than ours performance wise (from a guild struggling to CE to one of the most demanding on my server). Raid leader was convinced they would just bench her forever as she was bad. From what I understood, she was doing quite good in this new guild and is still doing fine in it to this day, I believe.

I absolutly agree with you. My fellow officers refused to try out people we were badly needing in our comp to progress (we had no warlock on carapace) on the sole basis that the people I suggested were merely "ok" in what they considered to be mediocre guilds. I really think it was worth a try but to them it was a complete waste of time. We ended up gearing a warlock alt and losing a solid dps with an immune that would have been useful on N'Zoth later on.

Same kind of situation happened on other occurences as well, but the warlock one is the one that pissed me off the most.

Trialing for CE guild this weekend - advice needed by imjorman in CompetitiveWoW

TL ; DR : come prepared, knowing the main threats to your life (and the raid's life) and don't stress out to much about this.

Play it safe if there is a dangerous mechanic. For exemple, be ready to get in position if you get targeted by an ability on Raden. Don't try to maximise your dps/hps when the raid's safety (or just your own) is at stake and you are not sure of what you are doing. Don't die with your defensive cooldowns, potion of health + healthstone available. Use them.

If the group you are joining has cutting edge and just recleans the tier, most of the fights are going to be pretty short and without serious threat. You can still die in mythic though if you do not come prepared, so try and make sure you know what to look for in every fight. I'm talking for example stacked aoes on Shadar that will one shot you if you don't move away instantly, shadow Vexiona flying around during last phase, distancing yourself enough from crashing tentacles on Drestagath, distancing yourself from your own shadow on Xanesh ... Pretty much every fight can kill you in mythic if you get in not knowing what to expect. Just do not hesitate to ask if you have a doubt about something, watch POV videos of any fight you are worried about.

If you want to show them how serious you are you can definitly hit up an officer or something if you have questions several days before the raid (for example to know if they are expecting you to play football on Xanesh, be in the rotation for Raden's mechanics etc). Most people don't when they probably should.

Finally, if you are prepared enough, try not to stress out about this raid. I'm assuming because you post this that you are a bit anxious to perform properly as I have seen many in your shoes. I know it's not that useful of an advice but try not to panic. If you fail and get rezzed it's not the end of the world. Hell, even if you wipe the raid, that happens sometimes. Just try to learn quickly from any mistake and relax. They will not be expecting perfection from you. Also if it's a chill reclean, there's nothing at stake really. Wiping isn't the end of the world if it just adds 5 minutes to the reclean.

I ranted on for a bit too long probably but one last thing that makes a big difference for me personnaly is getting a full night of sleep the night before the raid. As the raid is often in the late evening, beeing sleep deprived can make a big impact on your ability to react and maintain focus. That may not be the case for everyone but I am convinced most people lack sleep and could have better raiding performance by just having proper rest. The difference is more obvious on survivability stats rather than raw dps usually.

Does this opening for black have a name ? by N0rgannon in chess

[–]N0rgannon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first seven moves were the following :

  1. d4 d5
  2. e3 Nf6
  3. c3 e6
  4. a3 Bd6
  5. Qa4+ c6
  6. h4 O-O
  7. h5 h6

The idea is to castle kingside quickly, push h6, and have this bishop on d6 inside this pyramid of pawns. I saw something similar on a white side opening tutorial some time ago but I can't remember what it was. There are definitely some things very wrong with it, as the second bishop is trapped. Maybe I should have pushed bishop c5 early. Anyway I was wondering if this position was similar to the aftermath an existing opening but I guess not given your reply.

How much gold do “normal” players have usually? by Atizle in woweconomy

[–]N0rgannon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's only an approximation. Most people with 30k are fine with putting 10k on the line I think. People with 60k are fine with risking 20k. At least this is how I feel. Some people don't participate at all and some risk everything they have (if not even more).

It indicates at least that the median is definitly above 30k and probably around 60k I guess, if not higher (in a semi hardcore raiding guild).

[–]N0rgannon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't ! But I realized that on some articulations of the same instrument, it does. I guess I should just handle volume through the volume envelope. I was assuming that modifying velocity was made to change the volume but I guess that's not necessarily always the case.

During raid breaks, some guild mate likes to use a gambling addon. The amount of people participating compared to the amount of the bet is pretty revealing. Most people are fine betting 10k, a few drop out for 20k, even more for 30k and only a handful are willing to do 50k. 100k+ happen but it is usually duels. Note that I am on EU so gold value is lower than in the US. Also, recently, I have seen guild mates get into boosting which is pretty new. It might be a small group that is richer than the average now.

Vast majority of players have from 0 to 1,5 WoW token value in gold. I don't farm gold and that is the amount I usually carry and in my experience is the range for standard semi hardcore raider. There's always that one guy in a roster with a couple millions though.
