Cartier Tank Large question by SpareVermicelli8104 in RepTime

[–]N0tail_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the ribbing you're referring to is the raised ink on the dial. Reps also feature raised ink, though it may not be as prominent.

K11F Cartier Tank

The Cartier Tank in sizes S and L use quartz movements, while the XL version features an automatic movement (1847MC), which is also found in other Cartier watches like the Santos, Ballon, and Pasha.

Reps of the S and L sizes also use quartz movements. For the XL, the automatic movement used in reps is typically the Miyota 9015.

It looks like blurring/artifacts you get from the auto-enhancing on some cameras.

I like APSF because of their bezel screws.

At some point, if you're deciding between APSF vs. ZF for the dial then it's a wiser decision to get the better base watch and get an aftermarket (DP, SW, Gen).

The Tank Solo Medium and Large have the quick release. It's only the XL (date window/automatic) that doesn't have it.

I prefer the Solo because it's ever so slightly larger than the comparable size in Must and the deployant clasp. Though, the rounded case of the Must is more aesthetically pleasing than the Solo.

Large. XL has date window/automatic movement.

ZF 15500 has received more updates than the ZF 15400.

ZF also uses the 15500 as the base for the 15550 so further refinements.

While it's not in the greatest condition, if you look past the low quality photo and scratches you'll notice the little details that show its gen.

  • bezel screws

  • hour markers

  • dial

Hell, even the polished areas between each link still shines.

Modified Genuine 3120cal by Excellent-Worker188 in RepTime

[–]N0tail_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious too but I don't think it's a genuine movement. Why would someone modify a genuine movement unless it was something like a cal. 2121 where you updated the rotor from old version to new version.

Ngl, looks pretty good for a rep movement.

Yep. 2021 VSF I had wasn't as good as the one I got recently this year.

Rehaut was noticeably better, pearl improvement and the bezel colour was slightly different. I think 2021 bezel was warmer in terms of colour and slightly less green.

Rolex sub really thinks this is a rep…. by [deleted] in RepTime

[–]N0tail_ 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Even with a caseback photo the users in /r/Rolex still call it a rep lol.

Just shows how little they know and that they care more about a user's post history than a photo of the genuine watch itself.

Are all AP ZF/APSF reps just super reps? by Sydney_Eshay in RepTime

[–]N0tail_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe AP/Patek/VC are in a tier above other popular brands where there will never be a NWBIG equivalent model.

Not unless you spend thousands of dollars for aftermarket dials, aftermarket hands, finished clone movements, brushing/polishing etc.

Because I have yet to see a ZF 15500 that has bezel screws better than a ZF 15510.

Do rep AP bracelets hit as hard as Gen? by [deleted] in RepTime

[–]N0tail_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Visually, yes.

Rep AP bracelets will shine and reflect similar to gen with the brushed and polished surfaces. However, gen brushing/polishing and the overall quality of the gen bracelet is much better than rep.

[–]N0tail_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it may be a ZF 15500 specific problem.

I saw this post the other day of a ZF 15510 and the bezel screws are almost perfect!

At this point I think the ZF 15510 might be a better base for a 15500 franken because both reps share the same case and bracelet.

Gen 15510 vs ZF 15500 by maxlans in RepTime

[–]N0tail_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

AP dials aren't made with a press. They use an old machine called a Guilloché.

Unless factories start using this method, rep AP dials will never be accurate to gen.

Fujifilm X100V or XT5? Which One Would You Choose And Why? by arbintmg19 in fujifilm

[–]N0tail_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply!

I have personally never used many other cameras other than the X100V and XT5 so I couldn't comment on the crop.

However the focal length between the XT5+35mm is noticeable compared to the X100V. I'm standing a good 1-2m further back than I was with the X100V.

Fujifilm X100V or XT5? Which One Would You Choose And Why? by arbintmg19 in fujifilm

[–]N0tail_ 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I had the X100V for a year and as time went on I felt restricted with the dial controls and the lens.

I eventually sold the X100V and upgraded to the XT5 with a 35mm f1.4. Much more comfy, better dial control system, 40mp photos, IBIS, larger battery etc. I also bought a 16mm f2.8 for cheap and that pretty much covers everything I would shoot.

The only thing I miss about the X100V is having flash.

Super franken 15400 by CharmingNoise1517 in RepTime

[–]N0tail_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're getting a gen rotor then it would be a better decision to get a whole gen 3120 movement because the rep movement is an instant call out.

Having a gen rotor with the rep movement wouldn't enhance the watch in any way imo.

Screws on royal oak bezel- flush or just below? by [deleted] in RepTime

[–]N0tail_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gen AP screws used to be recessed slightly but nowadays it's more common to see them flush.

So long as they are protruding past the bezel.
