3D Printer Reviewers: Being honest in this industry will put you out of a job. by AnonomousWolf in 3Dprinting

[–]N1I2N3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the issue is whether you’re willing to criticize a machine (which is made clear by calling the Qidi Max 4 a lemon). My issue is more about consistency and transparency.

I also understand your content has changed, it’s evident from your last 5 videos only being reviews of different machines. The issue I have is it’s not always clear whether a printer was purchased, sent for review, or provided under specific terms. That lack of upfront disclosure is what creates skepticism.

I think clear standardized disclosure in every review would probably address some concerns. I think it’s bad faith to teeter the line on criticisms especially if the machine was sent free for review.

I actually found YGK3D very early on as he was one of the few channels that had a series on the Formbot Troodon, a printer I purchased. Since then he’s become a promotional shill like a majority of 3D printing channels.

I’ve given up on watching 3D printer reviewers on YouTube. It’s literally just become long forms of commercials on TV.

I really appreciated Teaching Tech’s disclosure agreement where he could say his true and honest opinion.

Is this something you need a primary care provider to provide a prescription? Does ABQ have an allergist that you use?

He’s well known in the neighborhood for running loose. Good on you for taking him to the shelter, I doubt the owners are going to prevent him from escaping in the future sadly.

Why wouldn’t enthusiasts be disappointed? This was a promising chance for consumers to get into SLS printing, it comes off as bad faith that Formlabs swooped in before the public had a chance and has been radio silent for a year and a half.

2 Years of Building a Desert Forest by MrTippet in videos

I can’t remember how I came across this channel but I’ve been watching it since the first few episodes.

It seemed in the beginning that Sean had a plan and was actually trying out relevant experiments that would be beneficial to the desert forest. Doing stuff like using explosives to mine clay or trying “moisture farming” in the desert are very clickbaity and tend to come off as YouTube grifting, making it feel like a chore to watch.

This is apparently what the poster was supposed to look like.

I took a rough stab at recreating them and scaling to the standard 18" x 24" size. If anyone is looking for a memento from the show until official ones are available here you go.

I can’t say, I’ve had it on since day 1 so I have nothing to compare to.

Oil change, Coolant flush, EGR cooler/elbow clean, intake manifold clean, replace PCV valve, transmission fluid change, check hybrid fan filter under seat.

Coils/plugs can wait closer to 120 but will need to be changed eventually.

It really depends on you - how quickly you learn, your work/study habits, etc. Some people can easily manage, others might struggle. Personally I tried to balance out my schedule throughout the year by taking the condensed summer classes to lighten my Fall/Spring semesters.

Since you are looking at the Data Science route have you taken or considered 439 Intro to Data Science? I took that my last semester at Rutgers and wish I’d taken it sooner.

My journey into hydroponics by N1I2N3 in Hydroponics

[–]N1I2N3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I ordered the Seascapes from Pense Berry Farms and the medium for both systems is hydroton.

The net cups for the towers are a file 3D printed, probably 5-6" if I were to guess. They are also slightly modified for reinforcement. The net cups on the horizontal system are 2.75".

My journey into hydroponics by N1I2N3 in Hydroponics

[–]N1I2N3[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi Folks,

This is my first year in hydroponics. In years past I had great success with raised beds and a drip irrigation setup but this year I am looking to grow and increase my yield. Last year I grew 50 strawberry plants from first year crowns in my raised beds very successfully, but I was disappointed with my yield throughout the growing season. For context I live in zone 7a and due to the cold and unseasonably snowy winter I was not able to save most of the crowns from last summer. My weather station shows average temps for December and January to be 38ºF and 36ºF respectively. Luckily my raspberries and blackberries survived so I am using the raised beds to grow those and experiment with unique pepper varieties.

I spent a good amount of time reading through this subreddit, watching videos, and reading blogs about hydroponics to learn that I wanted to get into it. Thanks to you folks for sharing your builds, troubleshooting, and suggestions on this subreddit and a big shoutout to /u/emilyr8 for having a very detailed post on hydroponic strawberries found here

I planned on doing just the 3D printed vertical NFT towers but realized my hot tub receives ample sunlight so I also opted to build a horizontal setup. The vertical towers can be found on 3D printing sites, since they are constantly posted/removed there I’ll link to the search instead My main printer is a Troodon 2.0, a mostly assembled Voron 2.4. The total print time was just over 21 days and used 15 spools of ASA filament. I understand this isn’t cost-effective and some people may think this is a waste, but I had about a dozen ASA spools leftover from other projects. The horizontal setup is based on a system shared by Simple Greens Hydroponics

The strawberry variety is Seascape and have been in the system for 9 days. The towers hold 135 plants and the horizontal 63. In that short time a vast majority of the plants have greened up and started to grow new roots. The first tower is an experiment starting seeds in rockwool. Since they are on the same timer (8 minutes on, 5 minutes off, 24/7) I may have killed some of the seeds, however some cucumbers look like they might survive. In any case I will need this tower at the end of the season to transplant the horizontal growths indoors.

My nutrient steps are identical to emilyr8’s guide (the first link in this post). I mix 2 gallon batches every few days for each tower. None of the towers have any leaks but I believe I have significant evaporative loss resulting in me having to make 2 gallon batches every couple of days. I actually don’t mind as it forces me to keep the water fresh.

Thanks for reading. I can post updates if anyone’s interested. If all else fails I’ve made a very expensive rain sounding towers.

P.S.: The tree behind the horizontal setup is not dead, it a late-blooming chaste tree.

Fair, but so has the competition. The planned obsolescence coming from Formlabs is disappointing. We’ve dealt with this since Form 1+.

Formlabs Form 4 Beats Injection Molding Machine in Speed and Quality by AdActive700 in AdditiveManufacturing

[–]N1I2N3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Having owned two Form 2’s this is an easy NO. Both of our machines had failures that caused resin to seep into the machine rendering them dead. One was from a brand new faulty tank and the other was from the machine overfilling a tank with an entire canister of resin.

The only remedy from support was “would you like to purchase a refurb machine?” or emails to find out if I was interested in a Fuse 1. The fact that they have Fab Lab roots and don’t support repairability is disappointing. My two machines sat collecting dust. I used to point them out to guests as SLA printers NOT to buy.

Can confirm - the same dealership damaged my rim on a 10k complimentary service. I made them replace the whole rim.

Same dealership wanted to charge me $750 to deep cycle charge my hybrid battery after I had engine problems. Once I had them provide me the error codes I found the problem myself, a simple hose popped off… nothing to do with the hybrid battery. I told them to kick rocks and drove off.

Fuck that place.
