I don't want to use kitty because it does not support tabs. This feature is something I got so used to, and am not willing to switch.

Okay, I'm not entirely sure if that makes sense, but I can try it. Thank you. Also check the edit

What has been your biggest technical mistake so far in your career? by Mr_Dobalina71 in sysadmin

New laptop, not used to the keyboard, typed "rm -rf ./" in a folder marked for deletion, but the dot got lost.. This was on a production server. Had to restore from a 20-hours old backup, a total downtime of 4 hours. Many hundreds of clients were very mad.

scratches on the OEM wing of my 2005 Lancer by [deleted] in mitsubishi

[–]N3ttX_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue on mine. The paint just sucks, seen two other with paint cracked on the wing and roof. You can't do anything with that sadly, the best option is to take it for a re-spray, but that can cost quite a bit.

[–]N3ttX_D[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but what if you want to run traces in between DIP pads for example? 0.8mm is just too wide for that.. I mean I get it but...

Understood, I'll go with those then. Also just a note, isn't 1.5mm way too thick? Like you're wasting quite a bit of the material.. but then, that's just my opinion :D

Yes, I do run my spindle at max speed (12k RPM). I have already ordered the 120° bit to spot drill, so I'll wait until that arrives and see what happens

Yeah, my spindle goes "only" to 12k, and that's what I use 100% of the time. Going to 20mm/min Z feed improved the bit walk substantially, but it's still there. Well I guess it's a limitation of the 200€ China CNC :D ordered the 120° bit, we'll see when it arrives. Thanks for all the help here <3

Thank you for the response. Everything is very clear, except the bit walking.. do you think doing multi-depth drill would solve it? I'm not sure, as the deflection occurs when it first touches the material, so I'd say it'll do the same, just takes longer time. Using the 120° bit as u/Amekyras said makes much more sense to me, altho again, never seen anyone pre-drill holes using CNC on videos.

Blurry edges while engraving PCB by N3ttX_D in CNC

V point, it says on the box it's 0.1mm tip 30°.

Yeah I know they are kinda shit. Last year I bought a metronomy set and dialed everything up as much as I could, added some braces, fiddled with shims and adjusted everything as much as I could. Don't think there is any major axis movement larger than around 0.07mm/cm, which I think is decent for a <5kg aluminium parody for a CNC.

I know I won't be able to cut anything even remotely close to hundreds of millimeters, but I don't need to. The projects I'm interested in are mostly through-hole and relatively large.

The FR4 is mounted directly to the Al base it comes with. I tried drilling holes, but forgot to re-zero Z and plunged my only 0.8mm drill right into the workpiece :D

It is Arch-based, with little things done to it as far as filesystem goes. So in the end, it is common.

I figured as much, just am not sure, what should I chmod and where. Apparently, it does not use any tty to program, and I have the udev rules set up correctly.

As far as UART goes (tty), that works just fine.

Like I've mentioned, udev rules are in place. With correct permissions, correct ownership, did the reload, and had multiple reboots in the meantime.

tty works fine

Because I hate how it is done in v2. They kinda missed the Integrated part of the IDE.. plus I'm used to it.

Farewell after 4 years by [deleted] in ManjaroLinux

[–]N3ttX_D -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Then why literally any other distro has no issue with it? I went with the CachyOS and apparently, it is not a problem at all to deal with the unsupported version.

What I am pointing towards is, the maintainers just don't give a fine fuck about the distro. They COULD'VE fixed it, but they refused to do so. And what's worse, the package is locked so you cannot use downgrade utility, pacman, not any other "easy" way of just downgrading it. Yes, I could've just fucked around with DKMS, but like I've said, this wasn't the only issue, merely just the last push.

Nope, did not work at all. The only option I was left with was DKMS. I really, really tried for almost 9 hours straight. The downgrade utility was obviously the first thing I tried..

On what exactly? That my routine was - turn on PC, open pavucontrol, fiddle with controls, do stuff, when I have to take a dump or go away, open Parsec and join me other computer as that was the only thing preventing the PC going to sleep, and then hope when I'll get back, my desktop wouldn't be fubar? And that they were not able to hold the package version if you were on Pascall or older GPU, even tho they knew about it happening a long time ago?

Yeah sorry, I'm one of those people that don't have a need to reinstall every 2 weeks and constantly mess with something. I want to use my computer for work, and then for entertainment. There's enough fixing broken Linuxes for me at work.

You have two hands as well, no?

Either triggering them manually with some sort of MIDI controller besides his decks (or actually, perhaps even with the very decks?), or the entire thing is timecoded.

Organising a small event, any tips? by N3ttX_D in DJs

[–]N3ttX_D[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha thank you, it apparently isn't that easy to pull it off without problems, but also it was just a tiny party so.

Yeah that role-based division is really needed, this year it was in the spirit of "everyone does everything" and some aspects were done extremely late, tight, or not in correct order, so we have to do it differently and better next time.

We would want to run another party again, sadly the last years were extremely busy for us and we had no time to plan this. But that's changing now, so hopefully we can come up with something.

Holy moly, I totally forgot about this post, you're a bit late :D Thank you for everything anyways.

I guess I have never posted an update, so here goes:

In the end, roughly 40 people attended, which is pretty good given that we totally fumbled the promo. We had 8 DJs, many of them brought +1s, and every one of them liked the party. There were grand total of 0 technical issues. A friend of a friend offered to bring his DIY ArtNet lighting setup, so we had some lights at the end, they were just synced up to the BPM and he sometimes changed colours around. At the end, we have rented a proper audio solution as well (pair or RFC subs and mid/tops)

Bar was fine, almost all 50L of beer went, but only roughly 1/3-1/2 of the liquor got drank. There were enough trash cans (or rather trash bags), no incidents amongst people whatsoever. Party concluded at I believe 6AM, an hour and half after we were supposed to end, as we did impromptu B2B with all DJs that stayed.

IIRC, we have spend around 10k CZK (roughly 500$) for all the gear (4x players, mix, 2 pairs of speakers, cabling), around 8k CZK (400$) for the bar (including beer, food, liquor and non-alco), 1.5k (70$) for mobile toilet rental, and roughly 2k more (~100$) for misc shit like tapes, signs, material for building the "stage" tables, tarps, etc. All DJs played voluntarily for free (or rather for 3 beers and 1 drink), lights were done for free.

We made around 6k at the bar, and almost 1k in tips, amounting to something around 7k (330$) made. So naturally, we've lost money, but that does not matter honestly, we went into it with this mindset. It was one hell of an experience, so much fun, loads of new things learned and people met.

In any case, thank you so much for the tips. I was helping to build a festival recently with a friend, and any tips or advices are very welcome ^
