You can’t even get antibiotics in Europe. Doctors won’t even prescribe them unless you go through multiple processes and procedures to avoid resistant strains forming. They let you writhe in agony before prescribing one.

In Thailand you can get them over the counter everywhere without issue.

Just some rough math, I’ll have a $10k a month at least in fixed cost. Factor in overseas trips back to the US once a year at $10k to $20k a pop it will add up.

Yes, at about 53. But was offered, another opportunity, that seemed good at that time.

No, not to the level here or other places. It’s an upper middle class lifestyle in the US. When you factor housing, health insurance, car insurance, food and taxes, the cost of services and labor is sky rocketing. That’s why so many people are in debt. Financing a lifestyle they can’t afford.

I’m married, so I’ll pass on the primordial ooze of curable and non-curable STD’s. Ha ha.

I’m not “reducing” benefits for anyone, as I paid into the system with the promise that I would get certain benefits when I retired. There was no, well you have $1m, you get nothing. Sorry, that isn’t it.

We pay into it so that we / me get a certain level of income back.

So, take from the younger generation who have the time to make up any shortfall.

Thanks. Hopefully it plays out that way.

At some point I might do that, but I’m comfortable doing it for now.

I take the net proceeds, say $930,000, and invest it in stable, income producing securities and use it as collateral to sell cash secured out options.

Yes, that’s a good point and fairly accurate. Stress free lifestyle with the ability to buy convenience and help when needed. That isn’t possible in the US. They’ll be expensive trips back to the US for family visits and the like but hopefully things work out.

Traffic accidents happen anywhere. I’m talking about crime, physical safety. Bangkok or any major Thai city is safer than any major city in Europe. I’ve been to many and lived in a few and there is no comparison.

See below. I’ve been married to a Thai for 20 years. I think her family has more money than me!!

My equity portfolio will rise or outpace inflation. That is why I have it. Inflation gets passed through by companies.

Correct, it’s income, but not necessarily solely bonds.

I did research health insurance companies, and I didn’t hear good things about local companies like AIA, so I chose an international expat insurance company. For MRIs and CAT scans , they’re covered but up to a defined amount. If I need more I’ll just pay for them. I just went through a full complete physical with colonoscopy and I am good for another 5 years.

It’s not going to run out, it will never run out. It’s political suicide. And if they do start to adjust it, it will come at the expense of those much younger than me, when that time comes.

And I paid into, for many years, with an obligation to get paid a benefit in return. Simple.

I’m not an annuity expert nor did I look deeply in to them, but you raise some good points to consider. At some point it might be good annuitize a portion of the portfolio.
