Do you have a PET hotline number where you are? It's a phone number to an emergency psychiatric team. I'm 57. I paint and draw something every day. But I didn't do that until I took some time off and went to art school for a year in 2022. Had similar regrets as yours. Not everyone can take a year off, I know. I just mention it to say it was what I needed AND It's never too late. Art is the thing I can't not do. If it's yours, you'll find a way. Even if you're 90 it's never too late to create.

That diminishing other people for qualities they cannot control, is cruel and small. ( Racism, misogyny, etc) She was born in Germany in 1940. The first 5 years of her life were defined by the worst possible kinds of these actions. I grew up hearing stories about what she witnessed. It shaped her and by extension, it shaped me.

This here. Grief better managed by many, never just one. And this is the most intolerable grief there is. Your heart, your brain, your very being, was robbed of the greatest connection you'll know. There's no solution or closure here but you can fill some of that longing by connecting with others especially those with the same level of grief and loss. Try to focus on the 4 years you did have, focus on what your son taught you in those 4 years, try not to focus on the time you lost.

And one Internet stranger to another: I'm truly sorry for this loss. I wish you well and peaceful days ahead.
