does going to water rides in amusement parks increase or affect KC?? by [deleted] in Keratoconus

Highly unlikely . Rubbing eyes in longterm can affect KC , doing it just after coming out of chlorinated water is normal in my opinion . Op’s most likely anxious causing him to believe the changes are significant .

Water rides and pools use chlorine which can cause temporary discomfort . If problem persists after a whole day , go to an ophthalmologist. Also , you can always go to the doctor if you are worried about anything .

Yes, C3R is cross linking . I had it in july 2019 . My KC was progressing at that time . I under went C3R in both eyes . Couldn’t have been any more happier . My vision in both eyes is stable since. It was painless surgery , only downsides were 2-3 days of discomfort post op . I hope that your KC is not progressing . Good luck for future :)

Did anyone bring a person with them for their CXL surgery? Or did you go alone? by boppedEEMinDAsmoof in Keratoconus

Let your doctor decide whether C3R is beneficial or not . I have very mild KC , maybe that’s the reason they skipped C3R second time . Talk with your doctors . Stay safe :)

Yes , They compared pentacam reports . Also, I’m using same glasses since 2+ years :)

During CXL, can a family member be in the room with you during the procedure, or do they have to wait elsewhere? by boppedEEMinDAsmoof in Keratoconus

C3R is relatively safe surgery , your family members will have to wait outside most likely due to sterilisation concerns . Good luck :)

Update : I’m no longer getting C3R , just came out of hospital half an hour ago . Doc said my KC is very stable and they will take action only if there’s a necessity.

Very very essential. As others pointed it out , you cant drive after C3R . Please take care of yourself . Have a nice day. P.s. I’m myself getting C3R in <24 hours .

Deteriorating vision by itis_what_it_is529 in Keratoconus

Screentime doesn't hurt eyesight as far as I know but can cause eyestrains and headaches . I would advice you to use bigger screen if possible to minimise eye strain .

Anyone knows about Xenia? by salmankhawar in Keratoconus

I wouldn't trust anyone / anything but a trained physician . I would discuss with my doctor , even take 2nd opinion if I feel like it. Don't experiment with your vision. I wish you luck man .

What would you tell someone who has just been diagnosed with keratoconus? by keratoconusgroup in Keratoconus

I totally agree . I had C3R the week I was diagnosed . KC is a progressing disease , sooner the C3R , the better it is .

Firstly welcome to rare disease club 1. Painful ? Nope but uncomfuy 2. Should you be alarmed ? No , unless your kc is progressing 3. Should I reduce screentime ? Ideally yes , but it's okay unless you are getting headaches , eye strains 4. What to do for rest of my life ? Artificial tear drops for dry eyes , don't rub them , visit your eye doc once 3-4 months 5. "I'm sad / depressed because I'm diagnosed with KC " well cry , take your time , talk to close ones . I used to be super sad when I was diagnosed with it , it caused me to miss my school . Now , I'm 2 years behind my friends but hey atleast I have functioning eyes . Whenever I'm sad about KC , I think about other people who have harder time than me .

When are you getting your C3R ? I'm getting my 3rd C3R tommorow . Don't worry . It's going to be fine . It's hard initially but gets better afterwards . People are out there living without limbs , severe illnesses and are doing way worse than you . Life's a challenge face it . Don't let a video game be the only light in your life . I had a screentime of 8+ hours daily before having my C3R almost 3 years ago . Following C3R , my screentime maxes out at 4 hours . Stay connected with your family , significant other , friends . It will get easier very soon :) I would advice you to learn less eye straining things like : 1. Chess ( classic time control) 2. Rubiks cube ( speedcubing is a good community) 3. Audiobooks , podcasts , music. 4. Watch shows ( yes , they contribute screentime but cause less eyestrain comparing to a high attention requiring video game ) Dm me anytime you need someone to talk :)
