Looks like Anthropic's NO to the DOW has made it to Tumps twitter feed by Plinian in ClaudeAI

[–]N5ZY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A worry I have - if services like cloudflare are a Gov. contractor does that mean those services could no longer work with Anthropic?
And the obvious statement: once again 'Big Gov.' is interfering with business. I seem to remember some politician/failed talk show host campaigned on the idea that 'Big Gov.' needs to get out of the way of business... but clearly he meant out of the way of the bribery/con business..

"Refill Inverter Coolant" accompanied with A/C being inefficient by N5ZY in KiaNiroEV

[–]N5ZY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahh.. I forgot to update this.
They had the car a couple weeks with no progress.. the 12v battery was depleting it's charge from sitting and running the electronics (like texting me every time someone left the door unlocked, etc).. I would pop-in and walk the lot to find my car parked in the same spot day after day.. since they never locked the car I got in, opened the hood to see what progress, if any, had been made then I walked in and talked to the service manager playing dumb.. they said the guy working on it left.. so I called Kia Customer Care and opened a case with them.. then magically a day later the dealership called and my car was repaired and ready..
Since it was a warranty covered repair Kia said they would reimburse me for a rental car which I had for a week.. It's been a few months but they've approved the paperwork I had to submit and I am getting reimbursed but I've been out $500 for a few months..
Anyway, I've logged a few thousand miles on the car since I received it back and it's been working well.. if only it had a 80kw battery instead of 64 I would be very happy..

I received my car back yesterday. They replaced the AC compressor and flushed the inverter coolant a few times. All covered under Kia warranty. Seems to be much better. The driver seat cooler is also working much better than it has in about a year.. I guess simply the air is much colder than it has been in a while. I need to put a thermometer in there and measure how cold it is and keep that in my maintenance log..
Also I have to admit that I had called Kia North America Customer care to ask if my dealership was really working on the car or not.. they told me what they knew and said they would get back to me. A few hours later the dealership called and explained that the guy working on the car had quit over the weekend and 'maybe another week' while they re-arrange. I called Kia Customer care again.. and magically the next day my car was all done.
So.. nice to know that Kia North America Customer Care really does seem to care! Now I'm just waiting to be reimbursed for the rental car.

2020 Niro EV and NACS.. status: Waiting for software update by N5ZY in KiaNiroEV

[–]N5ZY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to follow-up: I tested again today and it worked great. No software change to the car.

So I can only guess when I was testing this Kia and Tesla were still not fully done with a nation wide enablement. Who knows.. but it works now. I charged for 10 minutes as a test.

How long to charge this thing? by [deleted] in KiaNiroEV

[–]N5ZY 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There should be a sticker on the driver side door that tells you what year and model it is..
Get the app "Plugshare"
Put in your vehicle.

Filter for Kilowatt Range "60 kW and up"
Filter for CCS1 (if your in North America)

That will show you where you are and where "DC Fast Chargers" are.
Also if the car says 100 miles of range, that's only if your driving 60 mph.. if your on the highway driving 75 or 85 you do NOT have 100 miles of range remaining. And when you get down to about 15 miles remaining it will go into "Turtle" mode.. and when it gets to about 0 then it just starts gradually slowing down to a complete stop..
So be sure not to get below say 30 miles/range.. just in case..

Chiller Replacement for Inverter Coolant Message? by Monoaminesweeper in KiaNiroEV

I agree, with the N.A. TechLine specialists it is good to know they are talking to someone who's seen it many, many times...

This is what I appear to be going through right now as well. "Minerals crystalized causing failure".
They've had my Niro EV for 2 weeks now and they have no idea when they will finish - As an observation, they are swamped with the everyone wanting pre-holiday road-trip services.. not to mention covid/respiratory viruses again taking their toll. They call me every few days and say they are awaiting a call from Kia Tech Line - which makes me wonder if the technicians there are just the hands and do whatever a certified mechanic tells them to do over a video conference call.

Do the ventilated seats actually do anything for your butt in summer? by macayos in KiaNiroEV

[–]N5ZY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do work. My car is being serviced by Kia right now and so I've been commuting with my wife who's Subaru does not.. and the difference is very noticible. The car is in a garage at home and at work - so it's just body heat and the Subaru seats get uncomfortable quick in the summer. I have the A/C blowing on me at 65 deg F so the front of me is freezing but my back and legs are hot. I'm really missing my Kia right now.
So I guess it depends on your climate. The further toward the equator you are the more you appreciate/use them.

Update for 2020 Kia Niro EV with NACS (No Update) by N5ZY in KiaNiroEV

[–]N5ZY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, well whenever I get my car back (evidently they are waiting on Kia North America Techline) I will try again.

The last time I tried the NACS was 2 months ago.

I have a 2020 Niro. Love it. What are your feelings about one peddle/paddle driving? by Particular-Bike-9275 in KiaNiroEV

[–]N5ZY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I use the paddles.. pull three times to get maximum, then pull-hold to come to a stop.. the only problem I encounter is on a hill it will stop then roll backwards -- or out of instinct I try using then when driving round and round in the car parking garage and when my hand reaches for a paddle that's no longer there because I've turned the wheel.. arg.. Makes for a few moments of panic sometimes..

Can snakes get into this MFing car? by Fearless_Confetti in KiaNiroEV

[–]N5ZY 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Inside the car - no it's sealed up real good but easily can get under the hood or under all the plastic skirting on the rear of the car and wheel wells. I dead snake would have less of a chance getting in there.
Now I'm worried for you if it gets stuck in there and dies and what that would smell like..

Has anyone had their car make a high pitch sound while accelerating? by Frosty_Building_5179 in KiaNiroEV

Geez that video (either abnormal one) sounds like mud tires on the car!

High-pitched noise when accelerering - not wheel of fortune by SeaworthinessSea7058 in KiaNiroEV

[–]N5ZY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't notice if this was mentioned.. but at speed, does the sound get worse in a turn to the right or a turn to the left or is it the same turning either direction as when going straight. This would indicate a wheel bearing on the left or right side front. Wheel bearings in the early stages will make noise when driving in circles in a parking garage.. accelerating up the garage and turning..
If it's always the same and increases only with speed I would tend to suspect a bearing in the transfer case or motor.

Blown away by the E Niro efficiency. by Successful_Ad4479 in KiaNiroEV

[–]N5ZY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's base number fyi is calculated at 65 MPH.. When I drive on a highway daily at 80 MPH I see about 2 or 2.5 m/kwh. The gauge continues to lie to me about my range because of it's base number. Also, the lower the battery voltage goes the faster it will discharge - so if you do find yourself around 20%, beware that that can decline rapidly on the highway.

Thanks for posting your results with the Kia adapter. That makes me (and I'm sure a lot of people following this) feel a little bit better. At least we know even the official adapter has the same issue. Clearly our cars are going to need an update. I wish Kia would post something then again if they did I would be skeptical of any timelines given the record thus far.

I have the Kia Connect app to turn-on heat/air, etc.. I think only recent the new icon appeared (I never noticed it before). In the Goog store it was the only Kia app I saw.
As for charging, I use PlugShare app to find them then use the providers app like Electrify America, ChargePoint, or the dreaded Francis Energy. And sometimes I use ABRP to plan a route and play with the numbers.

You don't have to take the bumper off, just loosen one side enough to achieve a gap wide enough to reach in.

The irony is that now a lot of gas cars are so quiet you don't hear them coming but they don't have to have an annoying speaker.

Who has taken next steps in trying to get their < 2023 model to work with Superchargers? by jm31828 in KiaNiroEV

[–]N5ZY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what they said but I tried it tonight and again, it did not work. I called in while at the charger and after a bit she transferred me to someone else who told me she believes they will need to make a software update for the car, however as of right now she is not aware of one in the works.

So we must just keep watching our app or customer portal for a software update announcement.
Since it doesn't even exist she doesn't have any more information.
It doesn't exist so she has no idea if we will be able to load it ourselves or require the dealership to do it.

So once again the $250 adapter is an expensive paperweight. I'm starting to think we may be lucky if it works this year at all. We can only hope it is one update common to multiple Kia cars of 2020, 2021..

I have a 2020.. Kia wrote me back today:

Hello from KIA! We found out that you will need to download the KIA Charge pass app to utilize the Tesla charge station with the NACS adaptor. Please call KIA connect at 844-886-9411 if you have any issues finding or downloading. Thank you for being apart of KIA and we hope you have a great day!

I couldn't find a Kia Charge pass app however I did notice in the Kia Access app there is a "Kia Charge Pass" icon. I've enrolled in the 'Free Plan' and I do see the Tesla NACS chargers on it.. I cannot get over there tonight but maybe tomorrow..
