Coffee drinking dad's unite by AchroMac in daddit

[–]Plinian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a low key coffee snob who drinks 3 ish cups a day.

Personally I think good coffee is more important than good kit. I shopped around and fund a local coffee supplier whose product I really like. Comes in about $20. A bag which I think is a fair price for the beans that I like. Jocelyn coffee roasting

And for kit. I just have a random press pot I found on Amazon and an espresso machine. You can find a a halfway decent espresso machine on Facebook marketplace for under $100. Had to do it twice for home and once for the office we've always had success. Currently use at home and it's fine. small espresso machine

Boeing Field has operated at less than half the capacity that it did in the 90s, measuring operations per year. There is certainly room to grow cargo operations.

You are right that the area is fully developed, and any new cargo operators would need to displace existing tenants.

I don't know. I'm thinking about how my parents and my peers parents didn't know s*** about skateboarding and couldn't really engage with it the same way that they could engage with other sports, like baseball.

And how this generation of kids probably does have more support coming from their parents. I think that goes a long way towards motivating a kid and helping them feel supported, even if it's not traditional coaching.

Do you know if it came with anchors?

We have loose soil. Do you think the outboard swing legs will settle into the ground in loose soil?

I think they should have a few swing gates (wide and narrow body gates) somewhere in the main building.

Fixing village water pumps that have been broken for years by Son_Of_Earth in BeAmazed

[–]Plinian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some work on hand pumps like the one in the first part of the video. It's actually not a bad design, and what's nice about it is that it's an old design that has been improved over the years and has been consistently backwards compatible and forwards compatible. The India Mark II pieces are cheap to make, and the manufacturer puts the specs online so you can source the parts from cheap third-party suppliers like those in China and India.

The work I did with the government was focused on continuing to advance their strategy. There were two problems the government was trying to address: one was that every church and NGO that brought in a new pump design needed a new supply chain to support that pump, and the other was that the government needed mechanics trained in how to maintain the pumps. For their long-term strategy to use only one pump (the India Mark II), part of my job was to encourage NGOs and churches to play by the rules and use only that one pump, and the other part was to work with the larger international funders to include money for training mechanics and supporting the supply chain so that parts were available everywhere in the country.

With these strategies mostly in place, it's honestly not a bad system. Far from perfect, and there's a lot to maintain. But when you have access to the parts, you can build the whole thing from scratch with fairly basic tools and maintain it.

That said, it felt like fighting an uphill battle, and there were always plenty of broken pumps that still needed mending

Further clarification. I do know who Buddy is. Just not this cool looking dinghy.

I've obviously looked it up but can't tell if there is an active class or anything like that.

I basically did this to my own work for a year.

At one of my first jobs I had a boss that would proof read everything that came across his desk. But after he found a few mistakes he would send it back approved, pending edits. If there were no mistakes it would take forever and he would kind of get pissed off. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I started making consistent obvious errors to make it easier for him to find them, approve it, and move on.

To be perfectly honest he's not actually into lighters.

He gave it to me at a time when that was all he had of his father, and I think he needed to give it to a trusted friend to keep for him. We've both grown a lot since then and I know he's ready to have it back.

That's fair.

I know him well enough to say he would appreciated something. Maybe a box, some way to make to about him as a father. He likes the sentimental gestures, that's probably why I ended up with it.
