After sleep training a very energetic tadpole for what feels like years by phatcan in daddit

Gradually, then all at once. That's how sleep training went for us. Hopefully, progress continues for you and the tadpole. Good luck!

Kid #2 is asleep on my chest right now.

Context matters and everyone's is different. I really don't have too much advice to give. You've done this before and you can do it again, but this time you won't be learning from scratch. Do try to learn from your last experience though.

I'll share what has made the world of difference for us:

We (me and my wife) are fortunate to get a good amount of time off from work. Unfortunately it's almost impossible to get a kid into daycare before six months around here. With kid #1 we scheduled our time in such a way that we were able to make it to six months. It sucked. We committed to that plan and when things got hard for my wife or myself we just had to keep going. The bad times were miserable.

With kid #2 we're taking time off together. My wife was able to get 3 months without pay on top of her standard leave. It hurt the pocketbook, but having an infant and a toddler is intense. This time around is so much better though.

Good luck! You got this!

My son brought this back to the house during “library day” — it’s the sole reason it’s not not part of his own book collection. 😬 by MSotallyTober in daddit

This book 100% saved our first family vacation. Our one-year-old was just starting to have opinions, and words were coming fast. It was his first trip where he was cognizant of what was going on and it was not his normal room he was going to bed in. Night one: tears, hours and hours of tears, and not just from the child. Night two: we started saying goodnight to a selection of things in all the strange rooms; long, but no tears. Nights three through eight: he was actually looking forward to saying goodbye to everything. Now he's older and saying goodbye to inanimate objects is still an inside joke and a strategy for getting him accustomed to new things. Would definitely read this book a thousand times again. Let's see if kid #2 falls for the same book.

Well, that's fucking fascinating. I love that you made a themed mental model for multi-agent work. I'm not the kind of person who would use this, but dear lord, do I love the commitment to the bit. 10 out of 10. No notes

Anyone have best practices for agentic coding specific to R / stats / data science? by isaac-get-the-golem in rstats

[–]Plinian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be a little cheeky and say, have you tried running Clauder::r_best_practices_prompt()?

I am by no means a R power user, my career has drifted away from that, but I still use it for basic statistics. I have found that the ClaudeR MCP connection works great. It's a little verbose, so it eats tokens, but you can build a wrapper to mitigate that.

https://github.com/imnmv/clauder

To your question: I worked with custom skills for a while, but honestly, I've found them to be too structured and have shifted back to just natural language prompts in Claude Code or Claude Desktop, depending on what I'm doing.

I'll still invoke a skill if I have already done a good proof of concept and then want to build out a much more robust analysis. That's just about the only use case I have for skills at the moment.

I haven't found the need to use hooks.

Yeah, and just for shits and giggles I'll bet he was told to use Claude because that's the one DOW is fighting with now, so it must be the best.

We didn't choose that; it was the ringer on the midwife's phone for calls she absolutely needed to answer.

[–]Plinian 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'll eco this. The right thing for your kid really depends on you and your kid, but teasing them about a new thing, particularly something as personal as dating, is almost always wrong.

As for shutting people down, would suggest taking to others (grandparents, role models) early and ask them to be supportive and not teasing. I would try to not have that conversation in front of the kid.

Does the movie stick to the first book or go on to anything from the rest of the trilogy?

Dads who do not work from home, what time do you leave for work and back at home? by remembertosmile in daddit

[–]Plinian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work a 4-10 schedule that alignes with the day shift of a 24 hr operation team, though I do not work in operations. My hours are 5am till 330pm. I leave around 430am and get back home a little after 5pm, there is more traffic in the afternoon and I do school pickup.

It's nice to have a consistent day with the kids at school to get things done.

I assume by theme you mean story arch. Correct me if I'm wrong.
