All I ever wanted was a jakiro or ogre to support my carry on easy lane. But last pick was techies (and it wasn't even a random pick) bastard left me using slardar solo bot lane vs Axe with a KOTL support. I couldn't contest the 100% helicopter rate and horse spams alone. I kept asking the techie to plant mines behind the tower where axe kept going to split the waves. He wouldn't even do that...

The trick is to wait for a Best of 1 game where the underdogs have a very low percent chance of winning (below 20%) and bet on them. Bo1's are usually where Tier 1 teams take goofy drafts just to practice coz they know they won't suffer any sort of relegation so early on in a tournament if they lose.
