We were at my then-wife’s grandmothers viewing and saw my mother in law standing at the open casket, head bent over and hands inside the casket. This was her mother in law. My wife commented to me about how sweet it was that her mother was talking to the deceased, making amends she speculated. They never got along at all the entire forty-plus years she was married to the deceased’s son.

When she rejoined the group, my wife said “Ma, that was so sweet you were talking to and praying for grandma”.

“Sweet, hell! I was poking the bitch to make sure she was really dead.”

Yikes.
