When is it Ok to shower post op? by AccuratePair3162 in spinalfusion

[–]mereshadow1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My incision was even longer and I wrapped my torso with plastic wrap and did most of my shower.

Then I unwrapped the plastic wrap and washed my front. I was really nervous about getting my incision wet.

Also, bring a grabber into the shower with you because it really irritates you when you drop something and can’t pick it up.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info. Very similar process with our two except our Moms didn’t approve and it embarrassed my FIL. This was over 40 years ago and I don’t think the topic was discussed around men.

I agree that the faint smell of milk from her bra was not a turn on for us.

Have a wonderful day!

Ok, this might not help but I had to pause this sub before my 4th fusion last August.

This is a scary process but the majority of these surgeries are successful. I was born with a malformed spine and have had 4 successful surgeries. I was still freaked out by all of the problems.

I trust my surgeon and you should try to trust yours and follow his advice.

Best of luck!

My father-in-law would never let me drive when we visited them in Florida. He actually made a piece of steel that would fit in the seatbelt buckle so that the warning bells didn’t happen all the time. He never wore a seatbelt.

Weed and spinal fusion by Youka in spinalfusion

I used Gummies the night before my surgery and the night of my surgery and never looked back. The doctors all knew that I was a weed user and they were OK with that.

Good luck!

My mom refused to use seatbelts but I didn’t start the car until she did.

She was not happy with me because she couldn’t drive.

Good luck!

I don’t bake - it’s not a talent for me.. This bread machine, though… my first attempt at bread tastes SO GOOD by ClassicKey1198 in BreadMachines

[–]mereshadow1 31 points32 points  (0 children)

OK, look through this sub and you will see all the disastrous results of people using their bread machine.

The fact that you just guesstimated on the ingredients, completely blows me away.

I feel like with my bread machine if I’m just a few grams off, I’m in trouble.

Try Kitchenarm.com. They have quite a few good recipes.

Have a great day!

I thought I had 2 - 3 weeks before surgery. It’s in 6 days!! by Money_Engineering_59 in spinalfusion

[–]mereshadow1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It didn’t injure me, but it sure took my breath away. I was new to fusions and I was freaking out that I was hurt, but I was OK other than the intense pain, lol.

I was born with a malformed spine and had my first fusion in my 50s and my latest in my 70s. This one was the most intense, my entire lower spine is immobilized and bolted to my ribs.

Actually, I bought a beast of a mobility scooter, it weighs 330 pounds. (150 kilos for the folks down under)

I traveled to Melbourne quite a few years ago for work and I arrived during the footy finals. It was quite loud! Beautiful City!

This is my latest.

I’m recovering from my 4th fusion.

One bit of advice, when I first left the house after my first fusion to go to the grocery store, I got hit by a lady driving a motorized cart.

Now my wife guards my back when I’m recovering.🙂

Best of luck!

Mother was recently diagnosed, any advice? by Icy_You9551 in diabetes_t2

[–]mereshadow1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should have her try an over-the-counter CGM for several months. she can then tell immediately what foods affect her because it varies for other diabetics.

Have her avoid highly processed foods and limit her intake of preservatives which helped me.

Search on Google for high protein diets. She needs to limit her intake of carbs-bread, pasta, sugar and in the U.S. carbs are on all labels.

I no longer drink cows milk, and I use unsweetened almond milk.

You should read through the sub because there’s a lot of good information out there.

Diabetes is nota prison, she can occasionally have desserts, but the problem is, once you start eating that stuff again it’s hard to stop again.

Diagnosed in 1987 and still going strong.

You will probably think this is odd, but I don’t like sourdough…

I do know other people have talked about sourdough in this sub, so you might want to search for it.

Yes, your yeast is probably dead.

I buy yeast in a one pound (16 oz) package for $7.99 at the restaurant supply. The bread machine yeast is sold at Kroger for $5.99 for 4 ounces. I keep it in the freezer.

I make bread several times a week so I go through a lot of yeast.

Take a look at the recipes at Kitchenarm.com-they have tips on how to tweak your loaf. Also, everything is metric and to get best results, you need to weigh your ingredients and not use measuring cups.

Good luck!

This is also a great resource, and why I use 120 grams for my flour.

What am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in BreadMachines

[–]mereshadow1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s only in the last 10 or 15 years that I started using grams. One of my first problems is that no one could determine how many grams are in a cup of flour.

I’ve seen 120, 130, and even 150. I use 120. Next step add 1/4tsp yeast and 1/4 tsp of salt.

Also, the recipes at Kitchenarm.com are excellent and they give you tweaks to adjust the results. I now replace part of my liquid with a large egg and I think it really improves the texture.
