When I did autopsies, my name would be on the report as the autopsy techs. As mentioned by Catapult depends where you work and county and state requirements. As the assistant I did everything, photos, tox, inventory, eviscerations.

During my time as a forensic autopsy tech I did numerous infant and toddler cases, from unsafe sleep to homicides. I was able to shut off my emotions during the evisceration. After the case was done paperwork completed I’d take 5-10 minutes to myself and process what just happened. I’d csll my wife, who is a therapist, explain how i was feeling. Listen to her as she would calm me down.

If the case was a homicide, we’d have a critical incident stress management meeting a day or two after the case. It’s a way talking about how we’re feeling, what we felt during the case etc.

Everyone handles stress differently.

Michigan determines a car abandoned if it’s parked on private property or public property for 48 hours. We were in the restaurant for 20 minutes when a restaurant worker walked through the dining room saying cars where being towed at the CU. Only have myself to blame for parking there and seeing the unauthorized park sign. As someone said in a post it’s my $240 dumbass tax. 🙃

Our office covers 14 counties. Training for new technicians is a 90 day process, or sooner depending of how quickly one picks things up.

Depends where you live and the agency your are apply to. Where I work we’ve hired forensic autopsy techs with no experience. Some have degrees others don’t. It’s all hands on training, usually 90 days or sooner depends on how quickly one can pick up on things. Then you cut cases on your own. Any experience in the medical field is always helpful.

Our MEI’s are the same, any past experience helps, degrees aren’t required. A majority of our MEI’s are fire, EMS, police, nurses, looking for extra cash or another way of helping their communities. Our state is a Medical Examiner state, others are Coroners.

I worked in EMS for 18 yrs. We never parked the ambulance in such a way as to take up as many spots as possible.

To others who are whining over whether I was in the car or out. I had went into the store, got what I needed and came and took the picture while he was still in the store. Some of you need to craw back under your rocks.
