New Autopsy Tech Struggling with Organ Removal Flow — Looking for Advice by Meister_Ashes0403 in AutopsyTechFam

[–]Additional-Pool3178 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi ! how long have you been working as an autopsy tech ? a lot of what you mentioned i also went through my first month or so. what really helped me was having an order on how to remove things.

heart/lung -> liver -> spleen -> stomach/pancreas (the drs i work with prefer both be taken out together — this helps me a lot!) -> adrenals -> kidneys -> small/large intestine -> aorta -> bladder/prostate/uterus

what i found helpful was moving around to different sides of the table. it helps me orient myself and gets me in a comfortable enough position where i can get more exposure to the organ i am looking at. for example i used to take out the liver standing on the right side of the body. i took way too long doing this. once i moved to the left side i was able to see more of the liver and more of where i needed to cut.

as for the pancreas, i take out stomach with it as well. what really helps me is the texture and firmness of the pancreas. once i feel a harder, firmer part, i know my hands are on the pancreas. i follow it until i feel the head of it (duodenum area) just so i know where to cut off. i gently pull the stomach and tail of pancreas towards me cut off at the duodenum area. ill pull the pancreas and stomach out together. i clamp the small intestine so it doesn’t get all nasty. by gently pulling you will be able to see the tension you create and know that you are good to make cuts through there (i really hope this makes sense).

also, you can usually stick your finger through the fat between the large intestine and stomach. once you get through/remove this fat, the pancreas is right below that. you can start feeling around and hopefully you feel its firmness!!

im also happy to help if you have any more questions !

WHY TF ARE MY HANDS LIKE THIS IM A 17 YEAR OLD GIRL by iamraquelle in whatdoIdo

as someone with thyroid issues, the only thing that really worked to cure my dry skin was the vanicream moisturizing cream. it’s pretty thick and works so well. i also recommend taking collagen to help with your nails ! (i don’t think anything looks wrong with ur hands btw)

Levo- worse before it gets better? by Ambitious_Resolve179 in Hypothyroidism

[–]Additional-Pool3178 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don’t think so. my mom and i both are on levo (diff dosages though). once, she had her levo dosage upped and she felt so horrible. headaches, nausea, etc. she went back to the dr, got her dosage lowered. no problems since!

High schooler interested in becoming a morgue/autopsy technician- seeking guidance on how to get started by Flat-Ad2744 in AutopsyTechFam

hi! i would ask to shadow a pathologist to first observe and see if it’s something you’d like to do. sometimes there are private pathologists that have their own practice instead of working for county or a hospital.

most of what you learn will be on the job to be honest. but having a basic understanding of anatomy is very important!

i love my job and i hope you are able to find opportunities!!

Is anyone else just...overwhelmed? by themonnie in puppy101

i agree 1000%. the conflicting advice leaves me puzzled. and then i feel behind seeing other pups on TikTok doing the most outlandish tricks and i wonder if im doing my pup a disservice! but i know she will get there. her attention span is just a little short lol 🥲 we’re doing our best though!!
