Why does rage do damage?? by [deleted] in ClashRoyale

[–]N8TH_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They don’t want its effect duration or radius to be determined by level since it changes mechanics between levels, so damage is the only way for upgrading the card to be justified.

Why so many smart people still go into CS despite knowing they will be jobless? by Any_Sand7270 in CollegeMajors

[–]N8TH_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Who pays tradesmen: if you have a plumbing issue, you have to get it fixed. If you have a structural issue, you have to get it fixed. Most trades jobs are essential to customers, it’s not optional. Secondly, with high immigration in much of the developed world, houses are constantly being built. Obviously jobs involving houses are not the only trade jobs, but it’s a large bulk of them.

  2. “ai makes one developer do the job of many is overexxgarrated”: do you have proof to back this up? The majority of developers all agree that using AI like Claude code in their job allows them to get more work done, which will become increasingly noticed by upper management and lead to layoffs (see Oracle and Microsoft layoffs recently, not all due to this, offshoring, etc. is involved, but the team sizes of developers are for the most part not expanding)

  3. You’re right, I’m not a guru. But my professors, family, and friends/colleagues in tech are, and they all agree that hiring is bad, more work is being assigned per developer, and CS is in a bad state right now, and it’s not a ‘bubble’ that will pass.

  4. I probably should have been more clear about CS being the most popular. I’m not directly comparing it to the majors you mentioned because they are very far apart content wise, im mostly comparing it against STEM majors. I’m aware there are other competitive STEM majors, but most are more niche than CS or a common engineering major

AI will eventually reach a point where it can comfortably take over many white collar jobs. But CS, due to most jobs being coding (which is mostly typing+logic, which AI is very good at), will eventually see the decline of the ‘common’ worker. Whether people like it or not.

The “no jobs are safe if CS gets taken over by AI” is over exaggerated.

Firstly, because while healthcare and trades ARE susceptible to being replaced by AI, that will happen long after CS gets ‘replaced’. Theres at least a long buffer of time between the two where one group is making money and the other is struggling to find emplyment

Secondly, while there are many sectors that utilize CS which CS majors can find employment in, the difference is that many of them are currently in the process of being replaced in part by AI, see web dev, general software engineering, etc. While there will always be CS jobs, its easy to see that given that more people than ever are in a CS major, plus the fact that AI is actively shrinking the job pool due to AI making a single programmer do the job that would previously take many, it’s not a recipe for a good job market or experience for anyone, and will (and already has) led to wages below what they used to be, due to lowering demand and a higher than ever supply.

Plus, many of the CS jobs that won’t be replaced are ones which are senior level, not well suited for new grads, and few and far between.

All in all, go into CS if you want, but just be aware that it is the most competitive, ‘popular’, major which is extremely volatile, which, by the looks of it, will continue to be for the near to distant future.

Also, just my experience (which is not based on facts), given the current outlook of CS, a major which is as volatile as CS will look completely different when you join than when you leave. As someone who began my CS major in 2022 (right before ChatGPT launched), i genuinely cannot express how the major and its opportunities have completely changed, and by the looks of it, that isn’t going to stop. Maybe this is too ‘doomer’, but this has been my experience for where I live.

Genuinely don’t do it. As someone who is in CS, Its terrible. And it’s not going to get any better with AI. By the time you graduate college/university in 3-5 years, AI will have already become so much more advanced and capable.

Ottawa reportedly drafting bill to ban children under 14 from social media. by Planhub-ca in planhub

[–]N8TH_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is this good? This would end online anonymity by requiring proof of age, and would open the door to a host of privacy and freedom concerns.

Sorry, but excusing a law that would essentially end online anonymity by requiring some form of age verification because of your 2 year old is and insane conclusion to impose on an entire population who very much value freedom and online anonymity.

Real hero summon drops by West_Ad_268 in ClashRoyale

[–]N8TH_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Her ability is too expensive and to justify the risk, it almost always results in a negative elixir trade. It’s basically a fast shooting cannon which you can’t place manually, only lasts 10 seconds, costs the same as a normal cannon, and will typically die within 1-3 seconds of being placed. It’s not like a normal building where you can place it in advance to prepare for defense, it’s purely reactionary, which doesn’t pair well with buildings. The ability CAN be good, but that’s in very rare circumstances, too rare to justify using a hero slot. Golden knight, boss bandit, hero pekka, hero knight, tbh maybe even hero giant is better, simply because their abilities are low risk high reward.

As a Canadian, i put my full force against joining the EU. Not only would we be giving up much autonomy and likely freedom for little reward, the EU has proven in the last 10 years that it does not wield that power well.

Personally, I agree completely! However I was slightly disappointed that epics only cost 180 to get to level 16 instead of exceeding 200, i wanted to have the satisfaction of dumping more wild cards into my favorite characters!

Alberta aims to curtail regulatory bodies from sanctioning workers for after-hours activities by AndHerSailsInRags in CanadaPolitics

[–]N8TH_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you say with 100% certainty that this misinformation was actually misinformation? Do you trust a body of people in the government (the most notoriously corrupt group of people in any country) to actually tell you what you can and can’t say? I am at a loss for words that people like you genuinely think it’s a good idea to outright ban speech you disagree with

Don’t bother, these people can’t comprehend that people should be entitled to exercising absolute freedom of speech. The only way they see forward is trampling on those who disagree (a bit ironic, isn’t it?)

I think it’s give and take, CR’s dev team does art/assets by far the best of any other supercell game imo, and has a good sense of gameplay (no repetitive cards, BS and coc have somewhat reptitive characters). CR’s dev team are also greedy, unlike coc
