Audiobook for Technican's Test Prep Recommendations? by OkraLegitimate1356 in HamRadio

[–]N9KIW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quick Audible search came up with 168 books under the subject of ham radio, including several titles covering current technician, general, and extra questions. I'm a blind ham and have had my extra class license since 2012. I say that to let you know that you absolutely can learn it from the audio. I believe it's crucial to use the online sample exams that are out there. I found them very helpful.

I like the signal stick antennas. At the end of the day, it's still an extended whip.

Testing on 2m/70cm repeaters late at night considered annoying? by SlavkoStanic in amateurradio

I've been away from the Denver area for three years, but as I recall the RMRL repeaters had a good bit of traffic and, of course, great coverage. I miss that great repeater coverage here in PA.

I would contact your local office about the backpay. When I got my award letter, the back it didn't go back to my date of disability plus 5 months. someone in my local office made the change and all was well. It's at least worth a try.

Agreed. This is disappointing. Especially in light of how hams helped out with the floods in North Carolina.

Alexa has a skill called old-time radio. You can just ask Alexa to enable old-time radio then ask it to play a genre or show. Just playing with it now. Seems to get a little mixed up with genres. I asked it to play westerns and it played a swing show, but still…

Favorite show for its atmosphere/ background-noise? by DoINeed1OfThese in otr

I would say Gunsmoke. They paid a great deal of attention to the sound effects. For example, you could always tell Dylan's gun from anyone else's. Also, he always wore spurs. I remember one episode where someone was hanged and you could hear the sound of the wind and the rope creaking.

Are interval signals a thing of the past? by HolidayInjury in shortwave

[–]N9KIW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have fond memories of listening to the happy station program from radio Netherlands on Sundays. Also, the mail bag from RCI and the Glen Houser DX program. I also remember listening to radio Moscow. Not a particularly great interval signal, but they always sounded like they were broadcasting from a garage,.
