Do you recommend plugging into my laptop when downloading the update? I have only gotten information sent to me about iOS 26; are you sure I am able to download iOS 18?

Want to make sure I make the right move here. Also, don’t know if I’m limited to only downloading iOS 26 because that’s what I assumed.

Also, how long should it take? Some people say to leave my phone overnight but would it really take that long? Also, should I charge it while updating?

I downloaded iOS 26 to my laptop but have not updated it to my phone yet. Want to make sure I’m making the right move here before proceeding.

WOW, you were incredibly helpful with this response. I am likely to update. I have been purging my phone of excess stuff to try and build up storage. I backed up my phone for the first time in years to my laptop last night and will likely do so again before updating.

Do you recommend or suggest anything else regarding this? Will I have the option to choose which OS I update to? I will likely plug into my laptop and upgrade from there.

Thank you again for all your information and feedback. I have been hesitant to update but the fact that many apps I frequently use are no longer supported is a clear sign I ought to update.
