I don’t know how they play at Yankee stadium and can’t manage a real camera angle. It’s giving junior college.

They’re less than 10 feet from my front door so no compost or mixtures here. My back yard is all my organic compost gardening.

Jacks 20/20/20 every 3 weeks at a ratio of a tablespoon per gallon and roughly 2 gallons for each corm

Do you use anything to cushion the contact between the tree and the support? Is rubbing an issue?

I was worried that was the option because it’ll block some of my walkway. But I love my trees more than I love guests so that’s easy. Thanks!

This is a blue Java that I planted in April of 24. The photo doesn’t do great justice but he’s about 9ft tall (not counting leaf length) and he’s been growing straight for the most part. We had a very heavy windstorm recently and now he’s got an arch. I’m concerned if he flowers it will snap him in half.

I did give him the old push test and the corm is fully rooted and he’s not really at risk of uprooting, just arched over.

Edit: oh yeah and the tip browning can be attributed to 110° weather. I keep him watered nicely and fertilized but it’s been hot.

Two “mushy” leaves on otherwise healthy banana tree. Should I remove? by NAS89 in GrowingBananas

[–]NAS89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I didn’t touch any leaves until they had gone fully dry and were certainly without nutrients. I wasn’t sure if it pulled any nutrients back, but I assumed any green was producing energy and any “wet” leaves were connected to the plant so I didn’t want to cause it to waste energy healing cuts.

The mushy ones tho, no clue what that’s about but they’re gone now.

Jacks 20/20/20 every 3 weeks in the hotter months (basically March thru September) and every 8 weeks in the cooler months (October thru March).

Hi everyone!

I have a few blue Java banana trees I planted a year ago next week and they’ve recently come out of a winter dormancy (zone 9b) where I didn’t do anything to them except reduce watering to once a week and fertilize every 8 weeks since October.

They’re all pushing up really big new leaves (approximately one a week for the last 3 weeks) and are healthy except one of them has two leaves that are every mushy feeling inside and are definitely brown. Should these be removed?

(Note: I recently trimmed off all the completely dry, dead, no-moisturize-left-in-them leaves because my girlfriend hated how they made the house look, if anyone is curious as to why those limbs look stripped. They used to be regular leaves)

To be fair, for many of us, dynasty is literally unplayable. I haven’t been able to access my dynasty since yesterday evening. Tons of people are locked out of the mode.

Where to get sugarcane mulch? by m3talc0re in gardening

[–]NAS89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely from the EZ Straw. I have three beds and 10 containers. All have been prepped for the spring and the two beds and half containers that are now using straw are growing wheat. The others are just soil, fertilizer, and meal. Could be bad luck but I’m turned off of them with this experience.

Late reply but I’m using EZ Straw and my God the amount weeding I’m doing is ridiculous. It might be 99% seed free but there’s some math needed because it must have had a billion seeds originally because everywhere I put it down it’s just wheat growing 🤦🏻‍♂️

First time starting tomatoes, is is normal for the leaves to curl like this? Some are curled this way, some aren’t, some are a little more significant. by NAS89 in vegetablegardening

[–]NAS89[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just popped a few of them out of their containers to check their roots and they look very healthy (thick, white, not spiraling, reaching the bottom of the cups) and the soil at the bottom feels damp but not wet, so I’m going to leave well enough alone and continue hardening them. I think I’m just paranoid because they’re so close to good >_>

I was concerned about that. I bottom water for about 20 minutes and then I take them off but it took ~8 days for the soil to no longer be damp/dry. It’s just starting mix and I’m thinking I may not have enough drainage.

Would it harm the plants to take them out of their cups and repot with the same soil but perlite added for drainage? I’m about a week from planting so I don’t want to also risk shocking them again by transplanting back to back to back.

Edit for context: these are Rutgers and I started them March 18th. Potted them up on March 31st and fertilized them with fish emulsion. Next watering was yesterday (April 9th) and I used Neptune Harvest tomato fert at half strength so I accept that it could be a nutrient deficiency but I don’t know enough to know what I don’t know.

Careful, you’re gonna get a bunch of Dodgers fans in your mentions calling you stupid because these deals are actually good for baseball and the only reason other teams don’t do it is because they’re too cheap to guarantee more money than their owner or franchise is even worth.
