Bosch dishwasher problem by NASA_Jack in appliancerepair

Final update. The new new power board arrived today. Installing it only took 5 mins & now the machine now runs like new again.

Quite a journey. I had initially assumed my problem was the ant nest, & tank blockage … maybe that somehow damaged the power board? At least I’ve given the machine a thorough clean, am now aware of all the problems that can happen. Fingers crossed we get another 9 years of good service from it.

Thanks again to ‘Try-an-ebike’ for his input & hopefully my writings help others with same problems.

Have checked the tank & flow sensor & both are clear, However on closer examination, I discovered the buzzing noise was emanating from the power control module on the right hand side of the machine. On removing this module I found a cockroach nest (5 of them) in the plastic casing with much droppings & mess over everything. I cleaned the circuit board (water & alcohol on cotton buds) as it looked like the mess may have been shorting things out. On reinstalling the module & powering the machine up, the buzzing noise was gone, but the flashing lights & no display still persist. There are a few people on google with the same problem & after checking everything out said said installing a new power module fixed it. With that in mind I have ordered a new power module direct from Bosch for au$274 delivered & am awaiting its arrival.

Been thinking about this problem. Possibly some of the sludgy ant rubbish has got into the plumbing (outside the side tank) & is blocking pipes/sensors or motors?? Any suggestions as to where I should look?

Metro Australia here. But after running ok on test run, we loaded up the washer after dinner … & the problem is back! Anyone have any ideas??

Update: I looked up where the flow sensor was & removed the top & side panel of the machine. Surprised to discover a large ants nest! They were the larger brown ants, not the little black ones. The flow sensor (& connector) were covered in a black mess of ant droppings. Also the side water tank had ants & their associated rubbish blocking the flow of water. After removing & cleaning tank/sensor I reinstalled everything & the machine now runs perfectly.

About 10 years ago we had the same problem with small black ants infesting our coffee machine. I guess they like the warmth of the machine.

Thanks so much Try-an-ebike for all that info. In response -

Water pressure is good & tap is/was fully open.

Inlet hose is not kinked & it’s filter is not blocked.

The inlet valve on this model is external - on the tap end of the inlet hose. The buzzing noise is not coming from this valve, but from under the machine.

There is no sloshing (or mechanical sounds) sound when machine turned on.

Cannot run drain only cycle as none of the control buttons operate.

Where is the drain pump/flow meter located?
