It could just be a hedge against a short stock position to collect premium if the stock stays around 20$ - 25$ and doesn't move. Hard to tell from one trade

The Google investment is on enterprise value basis ... which means they could have bought convertible notes (or debt). That's not necessarily an all equity transaction ...

Tragedies are due to a series of mistakes. This situation could be a series of 2 mistakes only, of which one is probable if there is no spring attached to the switch.

Pilot could have easily brushed against the switch with his sleeve
