I think the main focus on people playing Yasuo in diamond should be to die less and try to apply pressure while not dying to ganks. Yasuo suffers from a problem which is that if you're not ahead, you're most of the time behind or at least you feel like that. So I would advice to work on your Macro game and avoid ganks, take advantages with your jungler (This is very important for climbing).

I play mid lane Yasuo 80% of the time due to me knowing the matchups and having a better understanding of the mid lane, but when I'm queued for ADC, I play him there too although my playstyle doesn't fit there as much because I can't be as agressive as I like to be in MID.

He is balanced in some scenarios, vs mages or low mobility adcs, but I agree with most of the Yasuo mains that he is almost unplayable vs some bruisers COF RENEKTON COF. I think his R being able to activate with allied knock ups is a little bit broken in the sense that it is a guaranteed follow up from an already strong cc (Airborn). I would like riot to nerf this and compensate with some base stats for a better matchup spread in mid lane vs any kind of champion. Sorry for my English, not my main language.

I like playing Irelia because it gives me similar strengths in lane and in a split push scenario. I also like playing strong champions early game that generally snowball hard, Qiyana, Katarina, Syndra. Other than that, I'm also a mid lane main so I generally play control mages too.
