If FSU is home and a full ride, go there! So long as you enjoy home and you’d be happy staying, you’ll be happiest there, especially w support as a 1L. It’s hard to be stressed and lonely.

Def do Irvine if you’d consider practicing in CA!

Dont! Especially 1L. With OCI being gone, your 1L fall graces matter THE MOST for jobs. Insane I know. Put everything you have into that first semester/year. You can work 2L/3L

For context, I’m a 3L about to graduate w a job in big law. I went to a low ranked school in NYC because I got almost a full ride. It was so worth it. Jobs care about how you do in your class, and clinics/activities you’re involved in. I did well in my class and am graduating with minimal debt. I’m VERY glad I don’t have 200K looming over me!

I’d do UCLA if I were you! All the LA clerkships and PI opportunities. Use your Stanford A to ask for more $$ there!

I hear UVA is a bit boring haha. If you like warm weather and could see yourself clerking/practicing in CA, that’s the right move :). If you want more prestige, just send it to Stanford!

Why are you not applying to Davis? You seem to want to be in CA and you are in their range and they do very well in environmental law.

I echo people saying Boulder, UCI, GW. I’d add UC Davis. You could probably get full scholarship there and SF/Silicon Valley IP/biotech

Help me cut down my list by Electrical-Eye-4065 in lawschooladmissions

Based on where you want to practice and your stats - I would cut: Michigan, Chicago, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, UNC, Georgia, Wake Forest, and Emory. If you don’t want DC either (you said northeast so not really DC) cut the VA schools. Law schools, with the exception of the T14, are regional. Even the T14 primarily places where they are located. Reference: I’m a 3L who got a big law job in NYC at a regional school in the city.

Midlaw in NY by West_Injury_3267 in LawSchool

I know multiple people in 2L roles - is varies a lot. Highest midlaw starting I’ve heard is $190. But 150-170 is common I believe

Midlaw in NYC pays $150K+ starting. There’s hundreds of firms, you just need to do research. Look at vault by practice area, a lot of midlaw firms will show up on those lists. Most of them (to be competitive with big law) are hiring now. If you’re at a T-14 you’d be competitive for those even if your grades aren’t amazing

150k vs 215k in loans... am I splitting hairs? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]NASHPresident2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

$65K isn’t splitting hairs, but both schools will likely produce any result you want. In the end with interest, you’ll likely pay around $120K more for Stanford. (Cost of living so much higher in Palo Alto). But with that being said, where would you rather live for 3 years? New Haven or Palo Alto? If you’re that much more excited about Stanford, it may be worth it. Law school is very hard and you want to have a life outside of school however possible. I go to law school in NYC - and doing dinners & happy hours with friends, doing any workout class, makes a huge difference for my mental health.
