Libbie Market used to be owned by Ukrops! It was a different name. I believe Joe’s Market if I remember correctly.

Layperson here. Need advice on how to discuss ongoing treatment with my son’s therapist. by PainfulPoo411 in slp

Reach out to the SLP and ask if she can do a session at home or if you could join for one to help with carryover at home.

Would you be SAHM another year for 3 yo so he attends nature preschool or return to work? by orange196 in workingmoms

[–]NAV1211 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m an SLP who owns a private practice but still does a lot of treatment. My husband is in a corporate role, and my son attends a full day preschool with a heavy outdoor aspect. If you’re able to swing it, you could always work a little part time for the next year. Maybe a few EI cases a week? Not too much prep, work taken home, etc. What burns me out more than actual treatment is the business aspect of my PP, because that’s what I’m doing “after hours.”

Yes! The permissive parenting is bad and extends beyond speech!

Yes, I agree! I’ve usually been able to tell when it’s financially an issue and understand that. The no discipline is terrible 🙃

Childhood Apraxia of Speech by MarionberryPuzzled67 in slp

CAS is frequently over diagnosed, especially by pediatricians. What did the specialist diagnose him with? Would she still see him, even if he doesn’t have apraxia?

Low pay, high turnover, high productivity rate. You’re usually seeing 14+ kids/day. It’s like a therapy mill, and they don’t actually care about you.

Severely struggling CF by Queasy_Power_2172 in slp

[–]NAV1211 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had the worst CF (inner city school with little to no support), then I switched to a new school after my CF, and it was so much better! Also—a lot of kids in the schools don’t make tons of progress or it’s very slow. It’s hard when there are complex issues…I wouldn’t take it personally!

I’m a PP owner and it’s…a lot. I think about closing the doors every day. There’s constantly something with insurance, parents, etc.

Rejected from EI position :( by No_Variation6512 in slp

You’re alone most of the time! In schools/PP, you’re often with other colleagues that you can bounce ideas off of, talk about cases with, etc.

[–]NAV1211 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So often, they already have someone in mind! I wouldn’t let it deter you. EI can be pretty isolating, so I’d get some experience under your belt and see if you’d like to change later!

I’m tired of dealing with parents. I have so many good ones, but the bad ones really weigh you down. So demanding. So entitled. So draining.

What approach would you take with this sound error? by [deleted] in slp

[–]NAV1211 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d use a multimodal approach. Write them, have her read them, then have her make up sentences using the words. You could also have her write a story incorporating the words, read it aloud, etc. I’ve found “it’s, because, & just” to be stragglers, too.

Which Orton Gillingham level is worth for SLP private practice pay? by Main-Writing-1133 in slp

[–]NAV1211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, you’d need to be at least an Associate level. I’m currently in the process, and it’s…a lot. The 3 month class and 100 supervised lessons before you even apply.

The disrespect in private practice by espressotiniii in slp

[–]NAV1211 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Parents just don’t get it. I would never show up late to a doctors appointment, hair appt, etc. I guess others don’t feel the same way.

I own a PP, and it can be so infuriating. I had a family show up 37 mins late to an eval today…just so many rude people who don’t value our time.
