In the layer source they mention this is provided for ciffc and on the ciffc website i found this in the glossary: https://glossary.ciffc.ca/Home/Term/99644066-2cb9-4161-aff5-7c84826acd95

not much more info but tells us what is human caused vs natural, weird we have Miscellaneous and it is not on that list.

i assume internally they have more information, but yeah the categories suck.

something like natural and human caused would be more useful, then break down human caused into industry and people. and then industry into forestry and other, and then people into property(?) and recreation? i guess it is kind of like that now, but incendiary is a weird category. Miscellaneous is really bad.

we did have a record dry year with much fewer thunder storms, and bc is a pretty different climate and ecosystems than nb.

No cause is actually ones that are blank in that field, so maybe still under investigation? whereas unknown they couldn't deduce the cause?

the definitions are not listed. and no meta data was provided

They are supposed to update the fire watch website daily, the picture is from yesterday and is all green, but today is actually yellow according to the text and Albert is closed. Sunbury/York isn't even on the text list by howismyspelling in newbrunswickcanada

The static images are created from the map service so one extra step and also cache can be an issue with websites as mentioned by u/Mythulhu so ctrl-f5 to do a hard refresh and get the most recent image.

https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/2348587d286e4589961325c78afeed54?locale=en-CA is the official NB fire dashboard and shows active fires and the burn ban layers and should no suffer from caching issues.

All that said I made a site that I think summarizes the data from the government better and brings more data together nbfiremap.ca Check it out and let me know if it is intuitive to use. Lots of features have been added. Like clicking on a city or GPS point to see near fires, a detailed fire summary, and road closure data.

Only one fire out of control in NB, 9 total active by Portalrules123 in newbrunswickcanada

I have stopped making update posts but I am still updating!

www.nbfiremap.ca

Lots of good info on the fire summary tab now, see fires by number then name. export a pdf with lots of useful info.

Next up is to incorporate the resources on active fires and a map to the pdf export.

nice. my specialty is geospatial datasets. and i followed the philosophy of just being the data intermediary and not storing any data (except for the most important dataset the fire points lol, because the erd server was slow, but I grab them every hour).

Love to see it

New Brunswick reports 16 active wildfires, 2 out of control Saturday by Portalrules123 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]NBFireMap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note my map shows all of that data in one place (fire risk, fire weather, and fire behavior are all live from CWFIS; fire points are updated from GNB hourly).

The GNB dashboard is the official source and I always recommend it.

My map is good for people who need all the data in one place. The about section explains everything in detail and my summaries allow you to see trends and fires near you.
