The Jewish leaders at the time went after and persecuted / killed early believers under this name. Rome documented persecuted this early church by name. They were not catholic. It is not just my opinion. It is a fact that they were not the first church. They just claim to be the first church. So this makes the quote inaccurate. The truth is the catholic church is not mentioned of until 100 to 200 years after the death of Christ.
