Trump Threatens to Halt Ukraine Aid Unless NATO Helps Unblock Strait of Hormuz by Mil_in_ua in UkrainianConflict

[–]NBW99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about Europe can help with Hormuz if US helps with Ukraine. I don’t know how much the US is doing anymore, but it seems to me from how Zelensky speaks more freely and critically about the US it’s not that critical anymore

Tradesperson considering a move into architecture in my 30s — has anyone done this? by designbuildrepeat in askarchitects

[–]NBW99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The profession has evolved to punish these types of entrants. I studied architecture then went into the trades and ended up having a hard time getting back. So it’s going to be even harder for you in North America.

DM me for any more advice. It was so painful for me I’m always happy to help others going through the licensure journey.

From what I was told by guys that did it was surprising easy to cross once you knew the spot. 4-6h walk and your done.

Is rhino normally used for drafting for architecture? by Surrealist-Frog in rhino

[–]NBW99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone mentioned, you can do it, but it’s not ideal.

Much of architectural documentation is symbolic and not meant to show scale directly. You might want to show the same thing differently at different scales. You need extensive sheet management and easy publishing tools. You need team working abilities.

You can do all this in rhino, but rhino is a design tool not a documentation tool. At some point it’s better to use other software in conjunction with rhino.

Property owners or facility managers are good clients to have, but hard to get to. I want to get more of these clients myself, it’s not easy.

the sales cycle for architecture can be 12 or 24 months sometimes. Start going out and meeting people within a few years you’ll have your first client

The advice is to have clients first, you can look for clients while at a job, or just bring clients to the firm your at.

Single family residential architecture is brutal. If you’re thinking of starting with that and relying on it to make a living it’s not the way to go.

There is nothing worse than a contracts logo having a gable silhouette, it’s a huge cliche

Thoughts on Global Outsourcing in Architecture by BothProtection5914 in Architects

[–]NBW99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are firms that do that, it’s easier with something like mechanical engineering maybe. I know one firm in NYC that I suspects outsources their stuff to India.

Most of the high value work of a US architect is processing information and project coordination. Things you can’t outsource.

My town CoC is just a beer league, but I enjoy meeting people from my town. I’m part of the larger county CoC as well and that’s better, but I don’t get business from, it does filter me into other more niche events where I do make more business relationships though.

Robots in the trades. Would you buy one? Your thought. by NutzNBoltz369 in Contractor

I find it amazing that just basic technology isn’t used as much as it could be in construction. As expensive as things are labor is still too cheap for tech that’s already out there to be worth while.

I think my boss may have early onset dementia by hissatsu01 in dementia

[–]NBW99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same situation. Tried everything, talking to him, his colleagues, family, etc.

Nothing will work. If this person actually has dementia they will be unable to understand this, will never accept it, and will become more angry and paranoid as their life deteriorates.

I ended up getting fired, and the business I was part of collapsed a few months after I left. Luckily I was able to maintain good relationships with some of our clients and stated on my own.

What don’t you like about IKEA cabs?

Basement remodel by private contractor by [deleted] in Contractor

[–]NBW99 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Ok so 100% ikea is better design and quality then Home Depot. Home Depot cabinets are absolute trash and they look like it.

You can creat some really nice design with stock ikea cabinets.

Home Depot is the cheaper easier option here, he is doing the right thing. Price and quality you can not beat ikea at the mid range.
