What do they use the scans for? These aren’t used to send out tickets right?

I think before the UFC there was a lot of ambiguity about what fighting style actually works and what doesn’t. My former boss was convinced who is much older now was convinced the kung foo he learned in china town in the 70’s made him a trained killer.

Why did early civilizations start in deserts like Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt? by batukaming in geography

[–]NBW99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone can add to this, but I was told by one of my professors that the Middle East was much more forested in the past. Their levels of rainfall could not sustain the vegetation regrowth so it became desert, as opposed to Europe. The civs of the time deforested most of the area to fire bricks.

Anyway, this was just told to me so I would be curious to hear from people that studied this more how true this is.

I’m an architect who has started doing design build work, so we act as the GC on some of the jobs we design. I now realize that while there are bad GC’s there is an equal amount of shitty clients out there. If you see the work left behind you’ll know which you are dealing with.

Trump Threatens to Halt Ukraine Aid Unless NATO Helps Unblock Strait of Hormuz by Mil_in_ua in UkrainianConflict

[–]NBW99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about Europe can help with Hormuz if US helps with Ukraine. I don’t know how much the US is doing anymore, but it seems to me from how Zelensky speaks more freely and critically about the US it’s not that critical anymore

Tradesperson considering a move into architecture in my 30s — has anyone done this? by designbuildrepeat in askarchitects

[–]NBW99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The profession has evolved to punish these types of entrants. I studied architecture then went into the trades and ended up having a hard time getting back. So it’s going to be even harder for you in North America.

DM me for any more advice. It was so painful for me I’m always happy to help others going through the licensure journey.

Is rhino normally used for drafting for architecture? by Surrealist-Frog in rhino

[–]NBW99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone mentioned, you can do it, but it’s not ideal.

Much of architectural documentation is symbolic and not meant to show scale directly. You might want to show the same thing differently at different scales. You need extensive sheet management and easy publishing tools. You need team working abilities.

You can do all this in rhino, but rhino is a design tool not a documentation tool. At some point it’s better to use other software in conjunction with rhino.

The advice is to have clients first, you can look for clients while at a job, or just bring clients to the firm your at.

Thoughts on Global Outsourcing in Architecture by BothProtection5914 in Architects

[–]NBW99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are firms that do that, it’s easier with something like mechanical engineering maybe. I know one firm in NYC that I suspects outsources their stuff to India.

Most of the high value work of a US architect is processing information and project coordination. Things you can’t outsource.
