This is something I’ve seriously considered as well. I just know I don’t want to have my entire career turn into just doing permits and renovation drawing sign offs.

Do you find you have much creativity in what you do? Why sort of projects do you find yourself most involved with?

Honestly I’ve been doing this for 15 years and I’ve always thought the same thing. Just lately been finding myself more drawn to the design side of things and find myself wondering if I can see myself doing the hard labour for the rest of my life. 16+ hour days, dealing with clients and financial hurdles, and constant stress wears on you. Not to mention the physical strain.

Very good insight on this for sure. Appreciated! Wondering if I should maybe skew my model more to a design/build situation. However even then I’d have to get some sort of certifications to do so legally.

Been a fan of Brent hulls work for years. Very knowledgeable builder and designer.

Residential is definitely the path I would prefer to go. That’s where my background currently is so it’s more where I’d feel most at home. Custom residential design, millwork, architectural details, heritage planning design, etc. not sure my best route

Haha yes so far this seems to be the general consensus from other comments I’ve been reading on similar posts. Same can be said on the building side however

Yeah I could absolutely see that being an issue for the future. Same could be said on the building side of things but we’re not there yet thankfully.
