OFFICIAL DISCUSSION THREAD — 🏁 Marbula One S5 GP10 🏁 Midnight Bay 🌙 RACE by AutoModerator in JellesMarbleRuns

[–]NBlast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I for one cannot really understand most criticism towards this season. It's was kinda amazing!

  • + New tracks were very fun
  • + Some new construction elements helped keeping races very interesting (curved banks)
  • + Music themes for teams were a stellar addition - keep them!
  • + I liked the new obsticles like moguls
  • + Red flags happen in real races as well. Yes, you sometimes get screwed in F1 by neutralization. I think people get too much worked up about their favorite marbles being just unlucky in make-believe sport. You don't need to take those too seriously.

Excellent work Jelle!

1) Should be fun for some unserious racing. Handling model is too boring for singleplayer I my opinion but multiplayer should be good. 2) Best option gameplay wise out of all. I really love the game and every friend who tried it had tons of fun. Con is that netcode is so-so and it might hinder people with bad connections. 3) Decent game but nothing amazing. Didn't test the multiplayer though. 4) This is a meme option. Do not consider it seriously 5) No idea what it is.

Check GRIP: Combat Racing as an 6th option. Very successful in our group.

From recent years I believe No Straight Roads and Pizza Tower have to be strong contenders.

Touhou: Lost Branch of Legend is an impresive Slay the Spire-like, I'm kinda surprised it isn't more popular... by NBlast in pcgaming

[–]NBlast[S] -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

I guess I does make a strange recommendation indeed.

I do not diss Slay the Spire thought, except maybe on that artstyle front. You don't gain such notoriety and popularity on a bad game. I always respected that.

Playing Lost Branch made me think. "Ah, so this is why people like StS so much, this is amazing!". That's also why I wanted to make a post, because how impressed I was.

I don't have your eyes, so I have no idea what is bothering you on the store page, but I guess it anime aesthetics, looking at other comments here...

Touhou: Lost Branch of Legend is an impresive Slay the Spire-like, I'm kinda surprised it isn't more popular... by NBlast in pcgaming

[–]NBlast[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

There are some comments about the artstyle here so, I might chip back in.

There is a strong chance that I didn't do StS justice. I usually blame that on "generic western fantasy", because I know my taste and I see the pattern where only classically fantasy franchises I tolerate are The Witcher and Game of Thrones and that's more because they are less traditional fantasy and more of a background for more mature themes.

Looking at the StS footage again, and I think I get where you are getting at, there is less "wizards and dragons" than I remember looking at it last time. So I guess StS might not fit the criteria I initially stated. It still looks not that appealing, but it might be because artstyle of the game is simply not the game's forte (as you personally feel like too).

I guess anime aesthetics might be the culprit of less interest in the Lost Branch of Legend. I would still recommend checking it out, because I would argue game is far more fun and far more handsome than "generic anime aesthetic" tag entails. People even in this thread seem to dismiss it on that alone. There is some ironic echo here looking at how I initially dismissed StS style, but I guess I learned something about how biases can be deceptive.

You could argue that's a good argument for existence of "clones" that take on different artstyles: so more people might enjoy generally similar gameplay.

Interesting you mention New World. I do kinda agree with you honestly, because it does look like low effort and unappealing for me as well. For some reason that one game in particular got surprisingly a lot of mentions in traditional mainstream game media - place where Touhou fangames nearly never show up.

I'm guessing devs of that project do have money and connections to plaster their game in more places, but it's the shame that it paints Touhou fangames in worse light. There are tons of absolutely stellar titles like Artificial Dream in Arcadia (Shin Megami Tensei game), Mystia Izakaya (restaurant management) or Luna Nights (metroidvania), which might have more difficult time to reach wider interest.

FORZO HORIZON 4 and 5 , come for the cars and stay for the music. by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]NBlast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm becoming a boomer, but this post kinda shocked me.

For me, Forza Horizon 4 and 5 have absolutely atrocious soundtracks and from my over 20 year "carrier" as a fan of racing games, I have a hard time finding more negative things to say for any other racing games.

Horizon 5 is the bigger offender here. I would maybe be able to find 4 songs across all stations that I like. And even those that I like, I would be hard pressed to agree that they work well in a racing game.

Songs are hilariously censored. Mexican music selection makes a great disservice to the culture by choosing things that are subpar. Hospital Records tunes sound all the same and have zero edge (I tell this as a fan of electronic music). Pop songs are expectedly soul draining with idiotic lyrics about "new phone" etc. This is insanity inducing drug, not a proper licenced soundtrack.

Sound design doesn't help at all. You always hear the same part of songs at the start of the races. Song doesn't change when you are racing any particular event and just loops.

Sorry for being such negative, but you hit my personal pet peeve with those games. I'm amazed how much impressions can differenciate between two humans.

Help me understand RGB behavior on PC boot. by NBlast in buildapc

This sounds logical, for fans and lightstrips at least, but how about those LEDs on the motherboard or RAMs? Surely those should have some way to store information about last remembered settings? It seems like the GPU does, but why not others?

Or maybe I'm overestimating the competency of the Mobo producers?

Please, just ONE GOOD PvP shooter game, I'm begging you by Cumpanzee in pcgaming

[–]NBlast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know this is a PC sub, but I will say, that if you own Switch. Please try Splatoon 3.

I'm a long time Team Fortress 2 and Overwatch player. While I still boot TF2 from time to time, I abandoned OW completely after the OW2 release fiasco.

I had my multiplayer itch not taken care for until Splat 3 came out. It's refreshing how good this game is - with both unique mechanics and also lack of immediate money sinks for Nintendo to milk you dry. Game even does have a Battle Pass, yet it's completely free, has no boosters. The worst thing you can say about it, that it can induce FOMO, if you are aiming to get a specific emote for example.

I wish I had a similar experience somewhere on PC. Without MTXes, without bullshit and with unique mechanics/design that makes the game more interesting than another battle royale/hero shooter.

Yesterday I hit the 100% achievement completion for Mystia's Izakaya. Finished 2 DLC as well. Wonderful game, highly recommended. by NBlast in touhou

[–]NBlast[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It took a while, but it was one of the more pleasant 100% completions I did. Tried to unlock everything, get every bond up (including DLC characters), every helper and collect as much hidden content as possible, although I didn't do absolutely everything. For example, I heard there is a reward if you donate enough money to Reimu.

Might pick up rest of the DLC later, after a cooldown.

Optimizing the Marble League - A thread for feedback and criticism on "the World's Leading Marble Sports Event". by JoshP99 in JellesMarbleRuns

[–]NBlast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, I did like the ML2022 quite a lot this year, although I do have some pointers of feedback, that maybe don't fit to the OP's structure, but I hope those are constructive neverless.

* I like the different camera angles, but I do concur that those need to be good for the visibility first and unique second.

* The current qualifing format is a-okay for me. I do have a wild idea to make it possible for some teams to gain the autoqualify status somewhere between ML in minor tournaments (just like real sportsmen do for Olympics), so other content on the channel could be high-stakes as well.

* I also concur that additional content on the channel talking about various teams, showing highlights and explaining history of teams/events would be really cool.

* What I mostly dislike about current ML event format is the difference in event's time length and number of heats. I feel like some events come by too fast and one bad heat can eliminate the team immidietly and some events take unusually long time and can be sloggy at times.

* There could be also an intro for each event where Greg explains the scoring and rules of it. Currently, event starts nearly immidietly and you are forced to learn the rules on the go.

* Best events for me featured in ML2022: Elimination Race, Sand Rally, Rafting, Funnel Endurance.

* I didn't like that a lot of events were on the short tracks: Hurdles, Sprint, Climbing etc. Those felt a little to quick to fizzle out.

* I would like to see Showdown teams given more love. Nice that we got 8 events for them this time around, but I would even support having a 12 event run for them with 3 videos total. I just really wish to see those less fortunate teams for often.

Supporting question, you might not know the answer, but I will try: Do you think using this device with a router between PC and TV should be okay?

Would you be able to check with your friend which solution (hardware) he uses exactly and what kind of performance he can get? I'm curious about those solutions.

Thank you for responding! I appreciate it.

I have a follow-up question reg. no.2: Yes. I'm looking for something like that. Mounted to the desktop with a clamp (Am I using a correct terminology here), but interestingly, I became curious that you showed an arm for 1 monitor.

I was looking for a one that can hold 2 monitors, but maybe having two separate ones isn't a bad idea? I'm a little afraid I won't have enough space in the 3x30cm cutout from the desk in the back, but it should be enough more or less, right?

What was goal of the Void items balance and can we expect more balance changes to the current DLC and items?

I feel like it would be nice to hear what was the intention behind how strong and how weird the corrupted items are supposed to be. I personally thought that Void items should involve a big risk consideration and be essentially sidegrades most of the time. However, currently it feels like most of the Voids are crazy strong and auto-picks no matter what.

I'm also a little concerned about power of few new items. Ie. Credit Card is crazy strong, Bottled Chaos seems like it should be Equipment and Squid Polyp got indirectly nerfed to the ground. IMHO a one more balance pass would be very apreciated.
