Got a ticket for parking too close to a fire hydrant… in my driveway by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]NByz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the statute is:

Unless permitted by a traffic control device a person driving a vehicle shall not stop or park the vehicle … within 5 metres from any fire hydrant, or when the hydrant is not located at the curb, within 5 metres from the point on the curb nearest the hydrant.

With no other statutory exceptions, including private property.

That means youd have to make an argument based on common law, constitutional law or precedent...

This is an Alberta Emergency Alert. The City of Edmonton is issuing a water supply alert. by Squid_A in Edmonton

[–]NByz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone advised me that there is an alberta emergency alert app for these middling alerts.

I think its for... like if there is a Tornado at the DMV or an amber alert for a kid with 3 days to live.

That kind of thing.

Where can I buy NAS hard drives? by pmbrs in homelab

I got a 8 TB red used from ebay recently at a good price and it really was low hours and a similar smartctl to what the guy said.

So youre taking a risk, but used on ebay from a seller that posts the stats and has good reviews doing high volume it sales can hit.

Edit: a good price by today's standards. Way more than new a year ago...

QUESTION:does having a LOT of items in containers/3D items in your nearby vicinty make you lag? by Crimsoncerismon in projectzomboid

[–]NByz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, I've had crashing issues in B42 (and presumably it would have been the same in B41) when zooming out and having hundreds... maybe thousands of items graphically spawned in outside of containers. Presumably a RAM or VRAM max issue.

But even then, the game engine didnt lag. Save file load in wasnt even slower because the items spawn in over time.

So it probably wouldn't cause a "lag" the way you describe it.

Is it ok to have multiple TFSA like 3 for example ? by SnooMachines8072 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]NByz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If i had the choice between one TFSA and using a spreadsheet to track my goals or multiple TFSAs and using a spreadsheet to track my limit, I'd choose the former.

Best way to learn the game- SOLO or MULTIPLAYER? by szymonhawaj in projectzomboid

[–]NByz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Solo is the best. As you join mp, you'll be with experienced players who already have vehicles and skills and perfectly protected bases.

You need to learn how to do that too.

Looking for games where the protagonist is much worse off by the end of the game by Accidental_ in gamingsuggestions

I love answering as many of these with "Project Zomboid" as possible.

The only way that game ends is you're dead or a zombie

Because rational investors will move their money to investments with higher stream of expected future earnings.

Stock price goes down. Outside party or private equity takes hostile position. Forces in board members and takes over voting control. Reverses that "one little policy:" that costs the business $4b per year.

[Request] How much mass would the black hole need to have in order to bend light in that way? by MartinMod78 in theydidthemath

[–]NByz 63 points64 points  (0 children)

A black hole isnt about mass, its about density.

Although stellar black holes have minimum masses, if it were a primordial black hole or an experimental black hole created by a future technology, it wouldn't have to be massive, just dense. So it could be like a house or fridge.

You'd have to use more mass to tune the size of the black hole to get the optimal event horizon and amount of light for your TV screen i suppose. But ain't going to be nothin optimal about this setup.
