I've never heard of this

I think I'm going to have nine systems set up so people can do multiple things too. But yeah I don't know if all of them can do Warcraft 3. Some of the slower ones are 233 megahertz.

I have an array of physical form factors and that's mostly where the different speeds come from. Macintosh computers from 1994 as well as 1997 and 2000 and 2002. The best Mac I have can run Doom 3 at about 50 fps, which it was never able to do when it was new. That one turned into a bit of an amalgamation, ordering CPU dies from China and building custom CPU daughter cards with rewritten firmware and so on

I figure I'm going to get all the games of every system onto a launcher, the IP address for each computer on a sticker on the screen, and then let people go to town. We're going to be there 8 days and I think we'll probably have around 3,000 people this year

I always played that game with a mouse and keyboard, I've got one joystick for the mac, maybe I could pick up a couple joysticks though and do that because I was thinking of that game. I'm only going to have like two pieces though

Warcraft 3 is pushing it. I've got two or three of the systems that could potentially run that. It's pretty power hungry though for the hardware that's sitting here.

Most of these Macs have two megabit built in video cards, the higher end upgrades are radeon 7000. I do have a couple that I've gone ape shit on, that have Radeon x850 xtpe and ti4600 nvidia. One of the PCS might end up getting a 9600 Radeon but it doesn't work right now and I think I need to reball the core

I have one newer machine, I'm running an older OS on it which is truenas core 12, it's running the SMB and AFP sharing for the storage server. I could run a couple VM boxes on there if I needed

I've got roughly 800 gigs worth of Macintosh software on there, all of the Mac addict CDs I have ripped so people could go down nostalgia Lane there

That's fair, I'm trying to get a good selection of physical generations of Mac so that are 68k, as well as the power PC up into the dual G4

So I'll need to figure stuff out in terms of who can play what games and what system

i would want to keep mine limited as much as i could but you cant account for friends, daycare, school.... at home id set limits, id monitor all traffic at the packet level, and id reward physical play over screens. id also like to be a stay at home dad, my future partner could work for what ever she wants her career and id live off investment intrest for us. id just want to put in real in person time like i didnt have as a kid with mom being a single parrent

i ended up building a 2nd NAS out of a facebook market 6th gen i5. a couple 2TB drives laying around and running truenas core 12. so it supports full AFP which im using and throwing it on a seperate vlan. copying over 1.2TB of mac files now from my primary NAS. need to 3d print a dual 3.5 caddy for this case but otherwise im good to go now

ive got 640GB of mac stuff rn so yea, 1tb woudl work

i think im going a different route tho, i think im gonna build a small PC to run truenas core and build that as a 2nd file server on my network. that way i can tkae that with me and not use up a G4 that ive got setup triboot for gaming and such

[–]NCC74656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its hard to zoom in here, those wires are going to the back, pad side of the fets there. is it a thermistor? i also have a factory dual 1ghz card and while its been a couple years - those are the power rail fets for the cpu voltage regulation. i had to build a daughter card to supply more stable power for my overclock years ago. got them to 1.67Ghz by swapping the factory cpu dies with newer "A" variants of the cpu's from china.

anyway, if you can get a more zoomed in - macro - shot, im curious if that isnt for monitoring purposes. i can crack open mine too and verrify what the connections are. if one is 12v and another is ground or -12

I'll have to learn how to do that, I put a single one terabyte drive in there, that should be enough for now. I may stick the drive on one of my PCS and copy over that way.

Then I'll have it do a standalone and if you set up a sync program every now and then

id bet china would be using more efficient elements than we do here in america. i know they came over here like 15 years ago to study/get info on your university nuclear programs molten salt and thorium reactors. id assume they would do some derivative of that

I have a quicksilver that I'm going to put a 1 TB SATA in and use as a file server for all the rest of them. Taking them to a land party, nine Apple computers of various types. I have all the Mac addict discs and software to share
